"I believe that everyone has a life worth saving."

Last year, Laverne Cox read a letter written by a trans woman in involuntary protective custody for a video released by the Sylvia Rivera Law Project. Cox would later ask the SRLP to take the video down, citing concerns about the inmate's convictions. This is an interview with the woman who wrote the letter, Synthia China Blast.

Welcome to Sex House!

[NSFW, TW] Sex House is an Onion webseries about six sexy Americans locked in a house for a reality show about getting nasty, but by the end of the first night things start to get terrible. Think No Exit meets Black Mirror (previously), it's a scathing satire of American sexual attitudes that's also amazingly suspenseful.

Chris Poole on self expression online

Google and Facebook would have you believe that you're a mirror, that there is one reflection that you have, this one idea of self. [They believe] that what you see in that mirror is what everybody else sees. But in fact we're more like diamonds, you can look at people from any angle and see something totally different. - Chris Poole, AKA Moot, founder of 4Chan and Canvas, from his speech at the Web 2.0 Summit on self-expression through social networking.

Deus Ex HR, the bosses

Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the prequel to the legendary PC classic developed by a freshman team at Eidos Montreal, received universal acclaim, but one point that many people seemed to dislike were the boss battles. While they have their defenders, Rock Paper Shotgun described them as "Feeling as though they were programmed by another team, from another planet, they absolutely, unequivocally do not fit in this game." As it turns out, they actually were designed by a contractor, the AI specialists GRIP. Here's a promotional video with GRIP's president, explaining their sins. (via Sesquiculus on MeFightClub)

Leaked AT&T letter on the T-Mobile merger

Leaked AT&T Letter Demolishes Case For T-Mobile Merger. In trying to gain legal approval for a $39 billion T-Mobile buyout, AT&T has publicly claimed that they need T-Mobile to improve LTE coverage and that the merger would increase network investment. This document tells a different story, of AT&T telling investors that they would actually decrease investment in the network and that the actual cost to improve their LTE network is much less than the $39 billion they are spending on T-Mobile. AT&T has told Wireless Week that the letter contains no new information.

The Stanley Parable is an experimental, story driven Half-Life 2 mod in the vain of the Radiator mods and The Chinese Room's Dear Esther. It's a little hard to explain without spoiling it, and there is a classy trailer on YouTube, but it's probably best you go in with no expectations.

My Little Brony

The best word to describe it is probably “relentless,” in that it’s relentlessly cute, relentlessly happy, and relentlessly entertaining. In its own way, it reminds me of a movie like Singin’ In The Rain, in that both properties aim to overwhelm any cynicism directed at them via sheer and utter joyfulness. It seems like it should be easy to watch either property with an ironic sneer of detachment, but both utterly wear down all defenses. - The A.V. Club. My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic (previously) is the curiously addictive cartoon accompaniment to the famous girl's toy line. It just finished it's first season, and all of the episodes can be seen on YouTube (start here) and this all encompassing torrent. While intended for girls 6 through 8, the show has spawned a surprising additional fan base of young-adult men. Calling themselves bronies, they have created a staggering amount of fan material (check the blog Equestra Daily, chan Ponychan, and image dump Ponibooru) and turned the ponies into a widely pervasive meme, all with the apparent blessing of Hasbro.
