Ask post: Stocks and bonds and...silver or something?
Thanks for all the info and websites! I may not have made it clear that I'm not actually investing my own money, nor is my boyfriend, but he is in the business of investing other people's money who have made the decision to do so for their own reasons.

Ask post: FriendFilter: Help me make sense of my friend .
He's probably as awkward as you are, you both being giant geeks and all (I say this lovingly).

Here's what I do in situations where, figuratively or literally, my face is 2 inches away from a man I want and he hasn't received the clue: I say, "Kiss me." If that's too quick of a move for you, tell him you have a crush on him, in those words.

I used to be shy, myself. Still am to some extent. Dive in, just this once...see how it feels.

Ask post: No Limit Honeymoon
Another vote for the Maldives...glass bottom bungalows, etc. Your plane will probably stop in Dubai on the way there anyway so if I were you, I'd work that into the trip.

Ask post: Groceries discount if you don't have enough money?
I typically don't ask too many questions when these sort of generous gifts are bestowed upon me unnecessarily. Maybe the universe loved you in that moment.

People who handle money generally have shortcuts that they know won't be examined too closely by management and may utilize them in a situation where it will benefit all to keep things smooth. A good customer will appreciate these favors quietly and not expect them all the time/ask too many questions.

Ask post: Where do my car and I belong?
Not an expert, but I believe you need a Florida license if you're living there and driving a FL registered/insured vehicle. You can be arrested anytime if you don't have valid FL ID after having lived in the state for a certain amount of time (2 weeks? months?) I got pulled over about 6 months after I moved to FL. I had the same experience, driving a FL-legal car on a NJ license, and I was threatened with being arrested. I was ignorant of the strict policy, which is why he let me go. Also, I... [more]

Ask post: Taken your kid up the Amazon?
You will see bugs you haven't even imagined existed. They scared the crap out of me. That being said, though I still dislike creepy crawlies in general, traveling the Amazon was definitely proof for me that exposure reduces fear. A tiny spider on the wall here? Now that I know what else is out there - non-rainforest spiders aren't such a big deal.

So it might be a growth experience for your son, if he's up for the challenge. The benefits might outweigh the risk.

Ask post: Well, you LET him get away with it . ..
It sounds like he's being a normal 19 year old. Hardly a "grown up". Annoying to you, naturally, being the older sibling who was apparently lucky/practical enough to have a steadier start to life.

I agree with nadawi on influencing him positively with career/school issues. Instead of stewing and feeding your own aggravation, try to find ways you can channel your concern into being a positive influence and role model for your brother. Lots of teens have these... [more]

Ask post: The horror
Ok...called hotline, they gave me instructions similar to occhiblu's experience, and I am now sitting with product in hair hoping I don't look like a freak for work tonight.

Thanks all for the help and advice! Will update if anything hilarious happens, otherwise assume the best ;)

(FYI, if anybody's interested, they directed me to a light golden brown shade and had me mix equal parts color, developer, and mild shampoo and apply for 20 minutes max)

It worked! Ended up with a really pretty deep auburn. And my hair didn't fall out.

Ask post: How to persuade a cat to stay indoors?
Don't let her out at all, not even for little supervised romps. If you're consistent with that and the spray bottle by the door, she will soon forget that the outside exists.

Ask post: What is harrogatha?
It sounds to me like what might be an exaggerated, breathy, mouth-wide-open pronunciation of the word "horrible". Maybe?

try googling alcohol intolerance. are you asian? there's some predisposition for that kind of thing in asian populations.

Ask post: Pancakes done differently
My favorites:

Bananas, apple sauce (mix in with batter), walnuts, cinnamon, and/or nutmeg in any combination. A little lemon juice results in a fluffier pancake IIRC.

Ask post: Highly significant cat rearing question :)
thanks for all the suggestions, you have all greatly curbed my hysteria at living in close quarters with a litter box.

just to clarify, i'm not talking about a city like new york, this is a teeny city but more city-ish relative to mr. kitty's previous home.

i will be a diligent scooper! thanks again all.

ok so kitty is here. he is skidding across my hardwood floor at 45 mph at least and enjoys cardboard.

outside-kitty status now depends heavily on whether or not he continues tinkling on my duvet.

thx again all

Ask post: photosensitive epilepsy
i've often wondered the same thing - it happens to me with the sun and the trees. also happens with strobe lights, but to a lesser extent. i'm not particularly light-sensitive at any other time.

Ask post: How do I squeeze fruit without it squirting everywhere?
virga: I'm a bartender but prefer not to squeeze the fruit for my customers mainly because I know that personally I want my food/drink products handled by as few bare hands as possible before I ingest them. I always give the customer a napkin to help with squirty citrus issues. Anybody else want to weigh in on this? Am I offending people by not squeezing for them? Some people request that I do it but unless they do, I don't.

Ask post: Is Chef a repetitive title like Mr?
Just "Chef" is for kitchen/restaurant staff in my experience. Chef Smith would be appropriate for a non-staff member talking or writing about said chef. On preview, what roboto said.

Ask post: how likely is sticking around eventually going to get them to come around?
i'd say waste not the awesomeness, but if you want to stick around and make a game of it, spread the love a little and try to make the crush jealous. tricky!

Ask post: In search of a Philadelphia emergency dentist
There's Dr. Wallet in Marlton, NJ who I can personally recommend as a super-sensitive caring dentist specializing in fearful patients, which might describe your mother considering the extent of the problem and the fact that she's been killing the pain instead of heading directly for treatment at the first sign of an issue. Marlton is in NJ but quite close to the city if she is at all able to travel within a 30-minute radius. He is the kind of dentist who will sedate patients beyond novacaine and... [more]

Ask post: In search of a hypoallergenic liquid soap
Cetaphil has no scent. As a super-sensitive-especially-in-the-girly-region person myself, I endorse this product (or any cheaper drugstore knockoff) whole-heartedly for your purposes. It's also a great gentle face wash.

Ask post: eBay scam?
This has happened to a couple people I know. It's phishing. Contact the actual parties involved and I bet they have nothing to do with it.
