Is this just somewhere we are suppose to weigh in then? I have never liked Search engine filter, or it's stillborn offspring, so I am on the side of this is good.

A grand experiment in this phenomenon
This comes up so often because the man has a divisive posting style. At this point I have long since realized that he does not care, and while I find that mildly offensive, it is not worth complaining about. Matt is light on droping the hammer, and if he is not going to do that this is just wasted effort.
One of these days I am going to learn to use Greasemonkey and killfile a bunch of Metafilter's gems. Until then I will skip past the Karl and Paris posts when possible... [more]

Surely it is possible to care deeply, but still choose not to comply with your wishes.
I meant that he does not care that his behavior has launched a thousand Metatalk threads. Maybe Paris cares too, it does not change the fact that they both cause turbulance in this forum.

Whoops, yeah. Internet explorer.
5.1? A lot of stuff goes away if you make sure you are upgraded to the latest version your OS is capable of running. Beyond that, you can try trashing your preferences, but I would just reload the program to save time.

You can't change columns. Is there a port of Firefox for OS9?
posted by mathowie at 11:42 AM PST on November 23 [!]
I have to keep some OS 9 machines going around the office, and there is no good browser for them at this point. I have IE, Netscape 4.7, and Mozilla on all of them, and no single browser can do the job on those machines. One hits a wall, try the next browser and hope for the best.

What is true? Are you saying that Anil only comes on the 3 flavors of MeFi to talk about his work? The last time I remember him posting was to find out how to free a frozen bolt from his bathroom sink. My guess would be that if he posted about his job, it was directly in response to a... [more]

It is probably that you are a bit of a harmless exaggerating sort, tho I thought you were a construct ala Robert Dupree/Kool Man prior to yesterday's splash. What seemed off about you did not matter... [more]

Metadual.metafilter.com could be a red page. 2 people enter a thread, one person leaves. A random table of questions to the participants could posited, and the combatants will answer them essay style over the course of 10 minutes. nonparticipants will vote thumbs up or down in the fairest way the universe allows for.

However, I have a large vinyl collection that I have been slow to digitize for personal use. I also have access to a very private Filepile-esque webpage where I do not feel bad about archiving an MP3 for a song or two that I already own on vinyl. Things I do not own, I do not... [more]

I think Metafilter would be better off if more people actually devoted themselves to making good posts instead of jumping into every single thread to offer their own long-winded opinion.
Really? I think if everyone who was a regular felt a need to post often instead of when they came across something interesting, the front page would be unreadable, sort of like what the Dalai Lama said about the way the world would be if every single person drove a car.... [more]

The thing is that Nofundy is into the animals. He thinks Jon is a horse, and thus wants to fuck him. He also thinks Jon's girlfriend is the horse he rode in on, and so wants her as well. Every horse in the world is not enough for fundy.
As for the last part, horses have no right to diss. They are property (or lovers if you are a twisty).

If you take Miguel up on his offer, for example, you'll have hundreds of buddies to explore right away
How is that better? It is a useless network full of people who have no real connection to you. If I have a connection to person B via my friend A, they can talk to A and see if I am on the level if I try to make a connection with them.
What Miguel is doing is making the connections so promiscuous that they serve no purpose other than to improve your Pokemon rating.

Yes he is, and he has posted a few weary replies to Miguel to let him finish. Using this forum to chant "Are we there yet" again and again is not the gentle help you seem to be implying it is.

There are roll your own Filters out there right now, someone could easily put up MetaGestalt and people could talk about their feeling and fears till the end of time. Pushing against Matt's obvious (to me anyway) desires seems like a selfish desire to kludge a useful tool so that you can tap into a robust audience.
