Digital Learning/Special Projects Library Resident

This isn't your typical residency. K-State Libraries are frequently lauded for our blogs, but we're so much more than that. Join us in establishing our claim as that place with the mad library skills. We are looking for a resident who will apply his/her skills to projects with impact. Rather than being locked into a specific department or rotating through departments, this two-year position will allow work on cross-departmental digital and learning initiatives. We are looking for someone with a high level of comfort in the online environment (whether it be web design, social networks, social tools, course management systems, content management systems, integrated library systems, programming, or other web-related skills) and a strong interest in learning more as s/he works in tandem with experienced librarians. Special Projects (~75%): •Assignment Planner (ksulib.org/ac) •K-State Libraries' interface with K-State Online (course management system) •Library tools/widgets •Gaming and immersive learning environments •SFX •Web site •Blogs •Wikis Reference and/or Instruction (~10%) Service (~15%): Serve on various Libraries or University teams or committees, dependent upon need and/or interest. Other opportunities may arise in areas such as special collections, collection development, cataloging, and acquisitions. This position reports to the Instruction Coordinator. Compensation/Benefits •salary is similar to that of entry-level professionals •comprehensive benefits package including 22 days vacation per year •support for professional development activities Qualifications •MLS from an ALA-accredited program •no more than 2 (two) years post-MLS professional experience •demonstrated skill with online environments •excellent oral and written communication skills •ability to work within a team environment •ability to take the lead on and responsibility for small projects •commitment to scholarship/professional development; potential to meet requirements expected of academic library faculty Preferred •Knowledge of HTML/XHTML, CSS, Java and/or Flash •Experience with or coursework in web design principles Send a letter of interest, resume, and three references to the attention of Peggy Goe, Director of Human Resources and Diversity, at ksul-hr@gw.ksu.edu and indicate JOB RES2008 in the subject line. Science Librarian

We offer boundless opportunities for anyone who wants to provide innovative services to users and make a real contribution to campus, almost unreasonably warm and friendly coworkers, and a kickass dean who values those who cut the usual academic crap and get to work. This is a far more technology-focused position than most traditional academic library positions. As a Science Librarian, you would: * Provide general and specialized research assistance, collection management, and library instruction to bioscience and/or engineering academic departments. * Participate in collaborative projects, research teams, and grant activities related to bioscience and technology initiatives. * Develops, manage, and promote Sciences Department digital content and services and provides support for Sciences Department digital content creators. * Investigate, test, and recommend cutting-edge solutions for Web-delivered science, agriculture, and engineering content. * Contributes digital imaging, metadata, and database creation and management expertise to Sciences Department projects and initiatives. * Serves as liaison between the Sciences Department and the Digital Initiatives Department.
