MeFi post: What are your thoughts on the movie?...
I enjoyed the movie but felt the movie had a "rushed" feel to the plot with the exception of some tedious romantic dialogue that was a bit overdone. I could have used a few less one-liners from C3P0 as well.

The fight scenes, however, were fantastic. Especially the battle royale featuring Droid army vs. Jedi. I can see the Lucasfilm spin-off now exploiting the Jedi training school angle. I thought Yoda was fantastic although he still sounds like Grover from... [more]

Perhaps they should move the Olympics to MTV, ditch the judges and just have online voting decide the victors. Now there's a debacle for discussion:TRLolympics!

Carson, I voted for the Russian chick because she's a hottie and I totally want to see her short program again if you know what I'm sayin'!

I'm of the opinion that camera or none the works stand on their own. Brushes, computers, cameras, etc. are just tools. The skill to use them properly and the innovation required to attempt such things in the first place is amazing, creative, and praise-worthy.

Shudder To Think has long been one of my favorite bands. I would describe them as a Post/Prog-rock mix. Admittedly, Craig Wedren's vocals are an acquired taste for most folks. Pony Express Record and 50,000 B.C. are both excellent and completely different records. Does anyone know what's up with them?... [more]

MeFi post: Call me crazy, but I think casting "celebrity...
I'd say that if an actor is a good then the characterization should be compelling enough to sell the part rather than the personality performing it. This is provided that the script is good and all other movie aspects contribute to strengthen the storyline.

While I enjoyed Robin William as the Genie in Aladdin I think the problem there was that he was almost a self parody when it was all said and done. Bringing in references to modern events (not in line with... [more]

I'm not impressed with the new color choices for the iMacs but I have a feeling they were targeted at the Japanese consumer primarily. I think these new colors will still probably sell well in the US. Apple will expand their offerings at MacWorld NY and use sales data to react to consumers.

I'll bet this guy really enjoys his work. Imagine rewinding and viewing scenes over and over again to painstakingly pause and edit just before a hint of nudity is shown.

The edited footage would make an excellent pastiche type of art project. Perhaps a comment on American culture? Better yet he should open another video store outside of town and call it "Just the Good Stuff"

Zach, you bring up an interesting thought.
A good director would not want his work trashed.
Perhaps Alan Smithee will now get the direction credits for these edited films.
Kind of like an album remix.

Can someone post a link that gives the full story regarding the imprisonment of Leonard Peltier?

All I've heard regarding this story is what others have told me. Is there an account of what happened available so we could read it unfiltered and free of the trappings of "current pet cause of the rock star political bandwagon?"
I'm not dissing the validity of his plight, I would just like the opportunity to read the facts and make up my own mind regarding the... [more]

Just like most of us the supreme court justices are people and they each carry the individuality of their own personal experiences, beliefs, and convictions. I think it is unavoidable that partisanship (not political but personal) comes into play when we (as human beings) make decisions. Your convictions are going to guide how you look at something.

The supreme court is designed to have a panel of judges so that the group will be broad enough to render a decision that... [more]

An observation-

I think it's funny how everyone (Bush, Gore, Jesse Jackson, etc.) have taken this issue and twisted it so much that we're (America) all so fragmented.

All of the current partisan/racial jargon of counts and recounts and re-recounts, voter discrimination is based on pending allegations and news articles based on slanted words of the parties involved. Regardless of the outcome the other side(s) is now driven so far to the brink of... [more]

Let me kindly respond for clarity now that my statement has really gotten the discussion rolling. I'm not saying that GE is right in every case. What I am saying is that:

a) some times the zealots behind the laws can often carry them to extremes without be willing to accept that sometime the corporation might be right.

b) If permission was given by the government at the time the corporation should not be liable for actions if they were within the... [more]

MeFi post: Is FOJM a reflective version of Lomography not...
Lomography is related to the lomo camera. It is a quirky, little Russian-made camera that you can exploit the short-comings of to get artistic and interesting results.

If you have ever used a 35 mm camera on the "bulb" setting and held the shutter open for an extended period of time to get interesting/blurry/blown-out results you can better understand the lomo. It automatically measures how much light has been exposed to the film and closes the shutter at the appropriate... [more]

I could care less abou the story.

I just want to know if solistrato's title to this tidbit - (Everyone sing along: "Are you a boy...or are you a girl?") is a reference to the song "Boy or Girl" on Imperial Drag's self-titled album.

If so, hats off to solistrato. Imperial Drag is definately one of the most ignored masterpieces of the 90's.

MeFi post: In a day and age where people are somewhat better...
Christianity is not about Religion it's about a relationship with God.
It is an active process which is anything but mindless or uneducated.

I personally think it requires just as much faith to believe that the world resulted by accident from chaos as it does to believe in a God that designed it. Evolution is STILL a theory and not scientific law.
