I want that beautiful longlasting awesomness.
We had good success with the following (sorry, two products, not one):
Benjamin Moore "Porch and Floor Urethane Reinforced Enamel" (the paint)
combined with
Homax "Slip-Free" Anti-Skid Paint Additive" (the grit)
The grit has the same specific gravity as the paint, so you can just toss it in the paint, stir it up and not have to worry about it settling out. Try it out... [more]

Heathrow to Bath for two faster than a speeding bullet (train)?
If I had listened a little more closely to my wife, I would have known that National Express was a bus. She had found their site and we've looked at the schedules/fares.
We land at 11:45 at Terminal 4 on a Saturday. There do not appear to be any direct coaches to Bath from here, so we'd have to get to the main bus terminal after clearing customs - (via Heathrow Express I assume - free and appears to need no reservations). Direct coaches to Bath are at 13:15 and 15:15.... [more]

Thanks for the continued interest.
We are actually only going one way (not returning via the same route). I'm at work and can't lay my hands on the exact numbers, but a National Rail single with any flexibility was around £60 x 2 (two of us) = £120 which is getting in to taxi-to-Bath territory.
We're leaning towards the bus, despite the time involved. I'll take a look at the RailAir to Reading to bath option -... [more]

the christopher hundreds:
We're thinking about it, but were hoping not to have to deal with a) driving on the wrong side of the road while exhausted (and it is the wrong side - it's not right, is it?) and b) parking the damn thing during the three days we'll be in Bath. We will be renting a car on leaving Bath, so we may just give up and let our all-American car-driving freak flag fly and rent at Heathrow.
thanks again

Ahh, you meant rent the car just to get us to Bath then turn it in. We'll give it a thought, rental's only £15/day or so.

How to pinpoint the source of household mold.
A long shot, but make sure that your clothes dryer (if you have one) is vented to the outside and the vent is not clogged. I've seen some truly unbelievable vent installations (including, yes, venting into a wall cavity) and vent lines, particularly those flexible shiny ones, can get clogged with lint. All that water in the clothes has to go somewhere.
If the adjacent bathroom has a vent fan, check it too. Easy check is to find the vent on the exterior wall where... [more]

stonewalling
As electroboy implies, we've been discussing two issues, not one: minimizing settlement of the wall's foundation and preventing build-up of water behind the wall.
You don't want the latter because it can push your wall over, particularly because it's dry-stack. Pea-gravel (the rounded stuff, usually sorted to be all one size) wrapped with filter fabric (a mesh kind of sheet to prevent soil from plugging up the spaces between your gravel) will distribute any accumulated... usb drive not recognized
I'll vote with Classic Diner - I ran into the same problem with a USB card reader. Connected to my work machine it didn't appear unless I pulled the network connection and rebooted. The card reader wanted to be drive X but X already was an assigned network drive.

Cadaver disposal on the cheap.
First, I would suggest dying when you're old. This will give you more time to consider the possibilities, as well as have some fun along the way.
Second, once you're dead what you think happens to you doesn't matter any more. Those "survivors" you don't want to be a burden to? Talk to them about what they'd like.

How many hours a week do you really work?
All those who take money for work they don't actually do are entitled to a free ride in a handbasket! Leaving now, for a much, much warmer place.
Sorry, I'll focus on the question at hand. Weelky hours of real work vary from around 35 to 60++. My line of work is very dependant on the economic cycle and when things are hot (now), we can't hire enough people to do the work (that's the 60++) and when things are slow, the good folk don't get laid off and are stockpiled... Your thermostat's in the wrong place (but you knew that).
Quick & dirty fix - what's directly on the other side of the wall where the thermostat is mounted? If it's a good place for the thermostat (say, your living room) just take the thermostat off the wall revealing a hole with a wire coming out. Take something long and sharp (say, a kebab skewer) and poke a hole through the wall on the other side. Undo the wires, push the wire through the new hole, walk around... [more]

I grit my teeth while typing this, but if all you care about is sealing the leak auto parts stores sell rolls of mesh tape saturated in some kind of heat activated resin. Wrap it around the suspected leak, drive around and presto! a lump of glop around your exhaust pipe!

By the way, if you think working on a 1980 car is easy, try a pre-1968 job. Aside from all those weird things inside the carburetor (and staying away from automatic transmissions) your intuition and a 50 page maintenance manual will do it.

I'll second the bit of a weeny. My mother's family always had a butter dish out on the kitchen counter, and this was in the deep south where it was both hot & humid. Her family tends to die in their late nineties. I say if it tastes bad, don't eat it - you can be the taster for your roomate.
Of course I'm a strong believer in the five second rule.

I think you'll find that the the Nazi's attempt at eliminating homosexuals was fairly "organized endemic, and systematic", given that many were shipped off to concentration camps during WWII.
