Bush wants military aid for Syria and Iran So what if both nations on the American terrorist list (previous to recent attack on us). I just returned my army (old) uniform back to the closet. I won't go.

Interesting claim. Upon what do you base this assertion? It certainly has no relation to your dated news link. Don't hold your breath looking for this headline anywhere; its not going to happen. Not in the near future, at least.

I would very much be interested in seeing the US and Iran, along with a few other countries, make nice with one another, and now seems like an opportunity.

My "claim:" is based on article that appeared this afternoon in international paper. The link now seems somehow to have been yaned. http://www.worldtribune.com/worldtribune/breaking-4.html ...this is whre it had appeared. I had not only read it but sent it to two friends, who then wrote back to comment. I might add that I have been getting a number of offbeat stories from overseas spots and after a time they too go bye bye....am I paranoid? I don't think so.

WASHINGTON — The United States wants to provide military aid to Iran and Syria to woo them to a Washington-led coalition against terrorism.
President George Bush has asked Congress to lift restrictions on the provision of military aid and weapons to those on the State Department list of terrorist sponsors. The list contains such countries as Iran, Iraq, Libya, Sudan, North Korea and Yemen.
The waiver would last for five years and allow the administration to provide military aid to any country, regardless of its record on terrorism or human rights. The Bush administration is said to believe that Iran and Syria will be crucial in any coalition against Saudi billionaire fugitive Osama Bin Laden.
Currently, Bush is prohibited by U.S. law from providing military aid to the so-called rogue states. Both Iran and Syria have rejected joining a U.S.-led coalition and, instead, have called for a United Nations effort against terrorism.
The Bush effort comes as the administration has sent Iran a message that appeals for its support in the fight against terrorism. Such a message is being delivered by British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw during his visit to Teheran.
On Saturday, the United States lifted sanctions from India and Pakistan. The sanctions were imposed in 1998 after both countries detonated nuclear bombs.
Congressional sources acknowledged the administration's effort to lift military sanctions against Iran and Syria. They said congressional leaders have requested to meet with the White House for clarification. The waiver must be obtained through congressional legislation.
"We all want to be helpful, and I will listen to what they have in mind," Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Sen. Patrick Leahy told the Washington Post on Monday. "But we also want to be convinced that what is being proposed is sound, measured and necessary and not merely impulsive."

The world tribune has been utterly, horribly innacurate during this whole crisis. I think they publish a lot of rumors that fit into their worldview.

I agree with the Bush policy and hope these reports are true (though I would never trust the motives or veracity of worldtribune.com). I don't think this is really a question of ideology. Hopes for reform in both Syria and Iran aside, yes, the governing elements in both from the past generation have been involved in some poisonous and dangerous policies, to put it mildly. But we're looking to make the world safer, not to start the apocalypse with an unreasoned and inflammatory policy for prosecuting our new "war." I'm afraid Israel is slow in waking up to the real meaning of this for U.S. Middle Eastern policy, and the noises from DEBKAfile, worldtribune, and other conservative Israeli sources is going to be getting a lot more hysterical in the coming months (my prediction).

Bush should give Iraq weapons in the fight against terrorism. In years to come when they use them to attack Americans, you can say "this is how they repay us? How on earth could we possibly have known?"
Also, who here will seriously argue that a world in which everyone is armed with weapons of mass destruction is a safer world.
