Remembering 1993 With Newton QuickTime Commercials. Ah, Newton. Such potential. And the commercials still have a distinct Apple flavor. So to speak.

I have a little H1000 (original message pad), love it. It really is a shame that they didn't take off. My Newton is 8 years old and the features are remarkable for the time

Man... I miss my MessagePad 2100 bad. I got frustrated with Grafitti and now depend on my Psion 5mx (nice keyboard, though). Nothing ever came close. Steve pulled a bad one on us back then. Too fast on the draw because the device really was perfect in the end. There's still a core group of supporters out there (check it out ATA support!).

If they brought it back updated to current OS and devices I would snap it up instantly.

Anyone have Quicktime videos or something of those apple ads that feature the burning Pentium II guy? With the song "Burnin"? Remember?

One weird thing I didn't mention about QT. I navigate in the browser with the keyboard a lot, especially Command (or Alt on Win) and right or left arrow. Well, when you have finished watching a QT move and you type Command left arrow to go back to the prev web page the QT movie goes in reverse. A "Paul is dead" effect! (Or satan in a Led Zeppelin song, same thing).

Apple is today releasing a new device as part of its Digital Hub strategy - it apparently pulls some of their experience with the Newton into its new small screen display, but I am waiting to hear what it actually is...

A few years ago I saw someone with a Newton2000 (I think that was what the second gen was called) so I asked if I could try it out.

It was better than my Palm3 (new and exciting at the time) by far. The only difference was the size, but if you don't mind carrying around a brick, the Newtons are still amazing.

Hmm. The Gotham one is sad; extended shot of WTC.

Gosh that was painful. Everything looked so serene for those few seconds... a billion miles away from the chaos that's been going on for the past month and a half. :(
