Waste a couple of hours at Mrs. Neugast's Fan Worship Page and reminisce about the celebrities you worshipped in your wasted, pasty youth. Be sure to spend some time browsing in the Gallery of Fine Art and Graven Images. (via scrubbles)

I have to confess that I now want to buy Mama Cass and Michelle Phillips dolls and make them do unnatural things to each other. [whimper]

Umm, no Dee Snider or Pete Townshend(my teenage role models) or Catherine Bach an Lynda Carter(my first celebrity crushes), so zero on that score. On the plus side, I finally know who Sajid Khan is.

Do not jest, MrBaliHai. The only woman in the world I've idolized, and wanted, and looked for in other girls, and not found, and been berated for it, is Michelle Phillips. And, of course, Joni Mitchell standing naked in the inner sleeve of "For The Roses". In my dreams they sometimes melted into the same goddess. "No salt on [their]tail[s]"...

Great, appropriately cheesy site, by the way. Makes you want to be young again and not so damn choosy and cynical and, well, old!

"David Cassidy, Donny Osmond, Bobby Sherman..." I sense the yawning and cavernous maw of a generation gap, and a bit of a gender gap, here.

I was going to let this comment slide, but the more I think about it the more it bugs me. majick, do you feel that folks should tailor their posts to some sort of MeFi demographic, and if so, what would that be: male, 20-something, techies? I'm a little old for Britney Spears and N'SYNC, but that doesn't necessarily preclude me from enjoying posts about them.

As for the examples you picked, only Bobby Sherman has become completely irrelevant since the 70s. David Cassidy is a bigtime Vegas act these days and Donny Osmond actually topped the charts again a couple years back.

Sorry. In no way was my comment intended to be criticism of the post, the poster, or even the names mentioned en passant. What I intended was -- and I can see how easily it might have been misconstrued -- that the site itself seemed to make the assumption that my wasted, pasty youth happened some time before the mid-70s. Most of the celebrities on the site are only dimly familiar to me, their stars having risen before I was 7 or 8. I really didn't get going on wasting my pasty youth until some time around the 80s.

The merit of posting the link, sir, is not now and never has been under debate as far as I'm concerned and I apologize that the poor quality of my comment led you to believe otherwise. Rather, I intended a comment on the site itself: Mrs. Neugast's page subtitled "The Who's Who and Where Are They Now of Teen Idols of the 20th Century" and having apparently zero material concerning the last quarter of said century is a little dodgy and that was immediately apparent to me having found so few names I would personally associate with "fan worship."

I came away from the site feeling a little bit like I had just listened to a story about tying an onion to your belt as was the style in the day. That bit about "yawning and cavernous" was facetious and probably unnecessary but I stand by my comment as being a legitimate, though humorously exaggerated, statement about the content of the site linked.

majick: thanks for taking the time to clarify your remarks. I can't dispute that the site leans heavily towards the 70s, but I imagine that's a reflection of the personal tastes of "Mrs. Neugast", whoever that might be.

As an aside: I have posted a lot of links to MeFi that are primarily compendiums of a particular genre of music, literature, or art. I find it kind of amusing how most of the responses to those links focus not on the content that's actually at the site, but rather on what has been left out.

I had the Osmond lunchboxes at the age of five, so I recognise at least them. My pasty youth happened in conjunction of DM, Duran Duran, Wham and other embarrasing bands.. (ok, maybe DM wasn't embarrasing but the way my friends worshipped them certanly was).

I'll keep my teenage crush on Terry from the Specials 'til I die.

It's funny that I'm too OLD to identify with any of the idols on the original site in the post.

But I wanted to BE Elvis, or if that didn't work out, at least Fabian.

Alison Stewart was megahottie, too. Maybe we should form a VJ love cult or something, dong...

Scary thing is, I knew who "Mrs Neugast" was before I went to the site (she was a character on an episode of the "Partridge Family.") So, if I remember that kind of crap, I guess I shouldn't be surprised that I remembered pretty much all of the fave raves shown....even Lena Zavaroni.

Excellent link; thanks, MrBaliHi!
