Great post, thanks todd. I've been a lifelong fan of Pogo (thanks to my Dad, who passed that down to me). I am too young to have enjoyed any of the daily strips, and admittedly some of the contemporary political references elude me, but I've read through a half-dozen or so collections - this looks like a great addition.
(Incidentally, this article is dated April 25th - does the NYRoB always come out online 20+ days out?) posted by kokogiak at 5:07 PM on April 5, 2002
I don't know much about nybooks.com, but I often enjoy their lighter fare, like this article about Dashiell Hammett by Margaret Atwood. posted by todd at 7:38 PM on April 5, 2002
A little late, but:

Trolley Molly don't love Harold,
Boola boola Pensacoola hullabaloo!

Donkey Bonny brays a carol,
Antelope Cantaloup, 'lope with you!
Hunky Dory's pop is lolly gaggin' on the wagon,
Willy, folly go through!
Chollie's collie barks at Barrow,
Harum scarum five alarum bung-a-loo!
Duck us all in bowls of barley,
Ninky dinky dink an' polly voo!
Chilly Filly's name is Chollie,
Chollie Filly's jolly chilly view halloo!

Oh my god! It's the THINKING CONTEST! Before I even knew what was in the article, I was going to say here that was my favorite sequence, ever.
And there's something about the collections -- not so much the daily strips, but watching some of his Sunday strips unfold one by one, as they were never meant to be enjoyed, but all of a sequence. Poetry of nonsensical nothingness. posted by dhartung at 9:51 PM on April 5, 2002
