Ahhhh ahhhhhhh! (Flash link) I never knew the lyrics to Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song," but I'm pretty sure I'll never forget them now. Animation! Vikings! And... kittens! However, as much fun as the video is, I'm not convinced it's historically accurate.

Funny - I always associated "Immigrant Song" with dromedaries.

That couldn't have been more perfect. Such darling little viking kitties.

I for one welcome our new Viking Kitty Overlords.

Yeah, this has turned up in my email about six times today. I have a bad feeling that we'll be hearing Immigrant Song quite a lot late at night at medieval reenactment encampments next spring. I wonder how it will sound played on a lute?

Honestly, though, the kittens in helmets scare me a little.

Also, somehow related (but I can't quite figure out how) - if you liked that, check out sabbatum - a Medieval tribute to Black Sabbath.

Bow down to the kittens with horns on their helmets. These horny kittens will make a great replacement for our warmongering government. Let them invade Iraq from the sea!!

Now that's edutainment!

Invade the western shore...hammer of the gods...envy of your land...

At last, the hidden connection between heavy metal and al-q'aida...

If Peter Grant were alive today he'd rip off the top of that guy's head and eat his brains with brown sauce for daring to tamper with Zep's catalog, just like he did to Little Roger and the Goosebumps when they released "Stairway to Gilligan's Island".

This is even worse than hearing Led Zeppelin in Cadillac ads.

The Viking Kitties crossing the little lake was priceless, though.

I kind of liked not knowing what the lyrics were, though. My version, which I'm not going tell anybody, was very different.

The song is about Iceland. The band wrote the song after their concert in Reykjavik 1970.

mmm, brains in brown sauce..

*begins banging head making devil horns salute*

Sabbatum kick ass. Somehow the medieval version of "The Wizard" sounds even freakier than the original.

Geez, I never realized how bad these lyrics are.

Bad lyrics? Perhaps you'd prefer the intellectual and emotional stimulation of the likes of Britney Spears or Kelly Clarkson?

I like kittens. Kittens are cute.

Kitten overlords, I'm just sitting here plotzing!

Part of me thinks this is really stupid, and part of me thinks it's kinda cute. Of course, I wasn't really giving it my full attention, as I was too busy thinking, "So that's what he's saying!" and, "I wonder how long it will take before someone posts, 'I, for one, welcome our new Viking Kitty Overlords.'"

Wilco covered this in their stop in Dallas last week, with a roadie posing as Robert Plant. It was really weird and beautiful.

That was great, and it's not the only song Led Zep did about the vikings. Viking go good with Rock & Roll.
