Strippers a better catch than a woman lawyer in a big firm?

Strippers a better catch than a woman lawyer in a big firm? The Greedy Associates boards typically obsess over how hard it is for a 27-year-old, already making $150,000 a year, to make their Christmas bills without a mid-four-figures bonus. "Howard Beale" sparked a debate on whole 'nother issue...

Sure, if you don't mind taking a chance with addled meth addicts with possibly a looser concept than you of STD protection - of course, that's generalizing. Fact is, all women (& men) comne with "issues" - are you ready to deal with them is the question.

Well if your criteria are:

1) ease of extracting a shallow conversation
2) numbers/supply
3) looking sexy, and
4) putting up or shutting up

then I think it's pretty obvious that a stripper is preferable.

However, I think I speak for a large population of men who don't judge women by those criteria. (Incidentally, we are also the men who the annoying, "take me out for dinner and buy me some jewelry" teases tend to completely overlook. )

And about his little "women just date me for a free meal" argument: who says you have to pay for dinner? I don't pay for dinner on my dates more than once; it's Dutch or every other. And if you're dating women for shallow conversation, because they're readily available, they look sexy, and they'll fuck you within a week of meeting them, then how can you possibly call women immoral for dating assholes like you for a free meal? You deserve it, and more.

Most strippers will talk to you. Stripping is a boring job with lots of downtime.

The only ones with downtime are the pigs who can't get men to pay for lapdances, and they are only talking to you in the hopes of getting you to pay for a lapdance. It looks like the strippers he speaks of aren't the only ones not destined for Mensa.

Perhaps women stay away from this guy because his phermones scream 'bad genetic material'.

So my choice is between craven backstabbing social-climbing bitches, and strippers. That sounds pretty accurate to me.

This is why I don't date anymore.

ITEM: Embittered losers prefer strippers over other "difficult" women! Baseless generalizations ensue. Non-losers everywhere fail to care.

Clearly (hopefully) that post to the GA message board was sarcastic and more about his frustrations with the lawyers he's dated than the supposed merits of strippers. It's just a few steps away from a typical lawyer joke (the punchline: "and besides, the lawyers have no self-respect-- by contrast, there are some things even the strippers won't do for money!")

Q: What's the difference between a dead racoon and a deal lawyer in the middle of the road?

A: There's skid marks in front of the racoon.

Heh. A little off-topic, but this reminds me of an article in the Washington City Paper about 5 years ago describing Georgetown (the neighborhood, not the school) as "the Iceland of dating," because the bar scene is impossibly tough for the young, single and hopeful male. The thesis was that the city had an exorbitant number of single, intelligent, attractive women who were cynical because they worked for bloated, lacivious old men and, consequently, took out there frustrations on anyone who talked to them; they either destroy their egos or treat them like objects by digging for as much gold as possible. It was mostly anecdotal, of course, but not as specious as it sounds; most importantly, and most relevantly for this topic, it brings up a good point: Yuppie women who diss on yuppie men aren't callous and cold as much as they are reacting to a male-constructed world that promotes such attitudes. I mean, jeez, Greedy Associates types would pimp their mothers if they thought it would get them in with a partner; why should they expect female Greedy Associates to treat them any differently?

Working as an associate at a large law firm is both extremely mind-numbing and extremely stressful. There is no joy in the job (but for the cash). The fact that any two of them can talk to each other, much less date, is amazing in itself.

I dated a stripper made some of the same points.

Well, I should amend that: GA types act like the women they hit on are something other than they are, when in fact they're all just feeding off their own vile superficiality.

But that stripper really liked Howard Beale.

Women associates who are not particularly physically attractive, resent it, but won't do anything about the situation except complain

I'm guessing here but he is probably referring to those women who complain their butt is too big but can't stick to a diet. Or their boobs are too small but won't ante up the $6000 for implants. Or their hair is a mess but can't take the time to find a good stylist.

I know these women. It is a defense mechanism. They are trying to fend off criticism before it happens...and hoping secretly that you will demur...."No, your butt is not 10 miles wide."

So you have a choice. You can date a bodacious stripper with all the problems that entails. You can date Miss Office Mate with her expensive hair, nails, clothes, and her personal trainer body and then discover that a woman who spends all her time, money and effort on herself is not going to be well-rounded. Or you can date someone in-between.

I don't think Mr. Beale is interested in "dating" per se.

But it's hard to feel sorry for him when you consider what that "I dated a stripper" guy had to go through, like having to sit through a string of dates with women who were "mango-shaped", who talked about their careers and who had a couple of nipple hairs. I don't know how he managed not to be soured on dating - or, indeed, human interaction - forever. It took a good deal of strength and resilience to pull himself together for that threesome.

Someone half-way between a stripper and a self-obsessed career gal? Sounds like a hoot! - I'm sure you want to clarify this a little....

Go on - don't be shy
