DDR meets the keypad in this flash game. Interesting adaptation and in my opinion, exceedingly difficult. Watch out for RSI. Couldn't find the title site in search, so apologies if it is old.

Hint: use the Music Game Selector to choose Hip Hop, and track #3 is doable. Don't worry, it'll still become a challenge after a couple of rounds!

Awesome, Rudy. Totally awesome.

Very similar to the Korean computer video game, I think it's called "Beatmaster?" Anyone know what I'm talking about?

For anyone who enjoys rhythm games that don't require extensive physical activity, try Frequency for the PS2. It's simply amazing.

Oh my god, I almost threw up with the pressure. Is 86340 a good score? Is this what the kids are into today? Is this good for people?

Unbelievably difficult.

Be very afraid people, the current generation of kids will be psychotically good dancers (at least rhythmically), just as I am very good at executing dragon punches and throwing fireballs.

Seriously though, if you've never tried this, it is unbelievably difficult. But its ALOT better than making a fool of yourself on a real machine. I had to secretly go to arcades in the morning just to get good enough to even show up during popular hours. Then, I tried to wow the ladies with my stylin' moves, only to realize that women aren't impressed with your ability to dance on a machine, and they refuse to give up the sex and walk away in the arms of the Captain of the Football team while you cry into your handful of tokens.

However, once you've been through that, this game isn't that hard.

Okay, I love this game and hate it too.
Love it because it's got some good music and I like the delivery.
Hate it because I get WAY too freaked out from the pressure and have to quit before I hyperventilate.

Funny, I can handle highspeed racing games, first-person-shooters, sneak-n-kill games, but constant pattern games like this (and Tetris) get me WAY too riled up.

wow that is ansanely difficult!

128340 is my highest score so far

insanely, even.

my heart is still pounding from playing that!

Oh by the way, the Super Mario Brothers in the Video Game music section is really easy (and familiar to many of us to boot!) If you stay focused you can easily get a 100+ straight hits. Use this before you graduate to the other ones.

Damn this is good.

No matter what I do, I miss every arrow-- it'll say "perfect" or whatever when I hit it but then ALSO grade it a "miss"... at the end, the number of arrows I missed is equal to all the other grades added up, which proves that it's not me messing up. Anyone else have this problem?
posted by kevspace at 11:00 AM on December 7, 2002

Oh, I figured it out-- I was bouncing the keys. Unlike real DDR, you're punished if you press an arrow when there's no mark. Boo. That would make playing this on a pad zero fun at all and as it is makes this game unneccesarily frustrating on difficult songs.

As super fun as this is, has anybody played the ones in Japan where you have a real drumkit? That is awesome -- and the drumkit machines are networked with a keyboard machine and an electrical guitar / bass guitar machine, so your friends call all play as a band. Now that is cool.

This. Goddam. Game. I can do the Mario Bros theme, and the FTS song, but that's it. I can't even imagine trying to do this with my feet, in public. I'd last about ten seconds, and then run to the bathroom to cry...

Josh:

That game should be available in most arcades in the US where they have DDR. I've seen people play it... insane.

I can't belive I wrote "electrical guitar." That is so uncool. OMG.

aznblader, if they have that in US video arcades, then I am going tomorrow.

josh: he is probably thinking of "MTV drum simulator," or something... not really a game so much as you put in your money and you get a minute on a virtual drum kit. Unfortunately the patent on the game means we won't get Konami's "Drummania" in the US anytime soon.

I've seen both Drummania and Guitar Freaks in arcades here in Canada.
