If you worship SpongeBob Squarepants as much as I do, then you know that superb voice talent is one of the things that makes this particular cartoon so wonderfully entertaining. But what you might not realize is just how much top-drawer showbiz talent the show's executive producer, Stephen Hillenburg, has assembled to bring his cast of wacky undersea characters to life: film actors like Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs), Ernest Borgnine (Mermaid Man), and John Rhys-Davies (The Evil Man Ray), along with teevee legends Tim Conway (Barnacle Boy) and Charles Nelson Reilly (The Dirty Bubble). Who knows, maybe they'll they cast Gary Oldman in the role of Plankton for the upcoming film?

And I'd just like to mention that by just focusing this post on the big names in the cast, did I in no way intend to slight the prodigious talents of Tom Kenney (SpongeBob), Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick Star), and Carol Lawrence (Sandy Cheeks).

Tom Kenney, according to this page, also did the voice for Heffer on Rocko's Modern Life. Geez, I miss that show...

(He was also the Mayor on the PPG's, apparently)

But seriously, I don't get the appeal of Spongebob...the only funny thing I ever saw on it was when he was crying face down, and sucked back his own tears...

Actually, I didn't get SpongeBob at first either, but after a while I realized how clever it was, then it really began to grow on me. I also like the fact that, unlike the Simpsons, I can always watch it with my kids without having to wonder about whether or not a particular episode will be age-appropriate.
