Welcome to the world of the Fuccon Family, aka OH! Mikey, a bizarre and amazing "mannequin drama" that has taken Japan by storm.

Ahhh I remember the late nights spent with uni friends watching a bootlegged version of Oh Mikey. The whole series makes more sense at 2am in the morning for some reason... 2am must be the "now I understand what it means to be a Japanese Television Producer" witching hour.

This is pretty ancient stuff. I haven't seen Mikey and family on tv in years now.

DVDs are available from Playasia.com and jlist.com, depending on your ordering prefrences.. I reccomend watching Vermillion Pleasure Night which started the OH! Mikey / Fuccon Family show as a skit, and contains other odd skits like Midnight Cooking and the Zombie Family.

2am is the only time of the day when Japanese TV is remotely watchable. Sure, 90% of it is infomercials, but all the other good stuff on Japanese TV is what makes up the other 10%. The rest of the day is just kinda painful.

There is a sample available (with a draconian Japanese DRM scheme to get through first). OH! Mikey shows up about 2 minutes in.

Vermillion Pleasure Night was one of the best things on tv late at night for a while. It's a shame they stopped.
All the good latenight shows end up cancelled.
They were just brilliant.
Primetime tv can sometimes be not too bad if you have any idea what the hell is going on.

Without having seen the show, I'd guess its subtext is similar to the subtext of "Sabado Gigante" I read about recently - "Gringos are Stupid"
