Andy's a fan of democracy, but knows that on some level, people are drawn to communism or anarchy simply because of the cool hammer-and-sickle/A-in-a-circle imagery. He's proposing a new face for democracy. Angrier. In your face. Every movement needs a good logo, I suppose.

I believe that with a world wide competition, we could come up with a better democracy logo than the one Andy presents us with, but yes a logo would be nice.

I was thinking something like this or maybe this.

I think something like these mixed together would make the perfect logo for democracy.
There is one particular logo on this page that cannot be left out of the mix.

What attracts people to democratic socialism?

The marks of world communism and anarchy have very distinct symbolism. The hammer is used to shape, the sickle is used to reap. The tools were commonly wielded by workers when it was first unvieled. It is either an emblem of unity or is scarily portentous depending on which end of the sickle one was on.

The circle A comes from a phrase written by Pierre-Joseph Proudhon in Qu'est ce que la propriété? He wrote, “As man seeks justice in equality, so society seeks order in anarchy.” The circle is commonly used in various philosophies and religons to denote order or closed systems. Bhuddists, for instance, draw a circle with figures inside it to illustrate the phenomenal world. The A is obviously the first letter of ‘anarchy,’ and the word is recognizable in every language which has roots in latin.

I like Andy’s idea, that is, advocating aggressive democracy. I believe that the people’s government has been usurped by the powerful, and we need some aggressive populism to make things right. However, Mr. Pressman’s identity politics and the Jolly Roger wouldn’t benefit either.

He needs to take another wack at it. Judging from his portfolio he is a great conceptual artist, and I’d like to see what he can come up with.

And stop with the swearing.

Democracy has nine letters. Capitalism has ten.

*bows* thank you very much. For my next sarcastic quip, I'll saw my own tongue in half with a woman.

We should merge all these images together and make that our brand spanking new conformist progressive democratic socialist propagandic kewler than thou logo thingy. Then we should chew our own hands off and bang body parts against walls like they did in the old days. Eraserhead! Eraserhead! I'm not as police as you siren I am. Winona Ryder was the walrus and John Lennon was the girl interrupted, but I still have to churn cider through the rainbows for a living. Order anarchy and all they give you a plate of anchovies. God, I hate the waiters on the Lower East Side. Ahora Neoismus!

If not exactly a logo, Poppin' Fresh would definitely make for a good poster boy: Plastic. Yummy. Deadly.
