To be perfectly honest with you, I feel bad for any little kids that got hurt, but as far as those scooter-riding adults who make up the injury total...you got exactly what was coming to you. Come on now, y'all just looked foolish.

Those things are huge here in Paris, too, and it's mostly non-kids using them. "Trotteurs" they're called, which also means "baby walker."

If all goes as planned, a month from now I'll be working here, which is a mile from my apartment via flat roads with bike lanes. I've been thinking that a scooter would be the perfect mode of transportation--fast, easy, and I wouldn't have to lug my bike up and down stairs. But I'm a big guy, 6' 5", and I'm a little sheepish about the spectable I'd make, not to mention skeptical about the possibility of actually finding a scooter to fit me. Any input from the fine folks of MeFi?

This is a good case of "You get what you pay for", I don't own a Razor but I believe the quality you would get is good considering the price tag. Then copy cats and even counterfeits come out and hit places like Wal-Mart and Toys R Us.

All you BIG KIDS, have you tried the Xootr? It's more expensive than most, but bigger with bigger wheels to boot. Here's their FAQ page for any questions you might have.

A little search on MySimon about the Xootr revealed the Nova Cruz Xootr Cruz Scooter at REI for $269.00, and the Nova Cruz Xootr Street Scooter at REI for $ 389.00. I want one!

I have a scooter and I love it. I ride it to class every day (weather providing), and it shaves about 5-7 minutes off the traveling time. Why care if you look silly? Especially when it's freezing now (I go to Penn), I'm doubly eager to stay out of the cold as long as possible.

120degrees, I finally saw the my first xootr in the streets the other day (even though they were in Wired months ago), and I have to say, the larger size matters. This person was really moving, at 2 to 3 times the speed I normally see people kicking along with razors.

I'm suprised that they haven't caught on more than they have. I'm sure that the price is a major factor, considering they sell the Razor knock-offs at every discount store and swap meet these days.

My only comment about these scooters....X-Games baby. I would love to see one of these on the vert ramp.

Scooters are silly.

There's a scooter at my Nanna's house. It has a green metal frame; the foot plate and the handlebars are wood, and painted orange. If I could pull it off, I'd bust it out for a spin around the neighbourhood.

It's a shame that the credit for the adults-on-scooters craze isn't being given where it's due -- Kevin Spacey. More than a year ago, he was shown scooting through NYC during a 60 Minutes profile. Next thing you know, everyone's scooting. He deserves some love. Or at least an endorsement deal.
