They're Not Playing Your Song. This is just mean. Mean, cruel, and awful. Heartless. And, I'm sorry, very funny. I laughed and laughed. I know, I'm a bad person. Are you too?

Seeing as he was wanted for domestic violence charges, I sure hope it was his wife who played that song. posted by fiery at 11:22 AM on February 22, 2001
Agg...
The headline of the artice: "Hacker Plays 'Jump' on Police Radio"
Sure just balme it on the "hackers" not on some guy with a radio.
I like how they refer to the perpetrator as a "hacker." This complex "hack" involves finding or stealing the right radio. posted by gimli at 11:25 AM on February 22, 2001
ha! hacker. funny though.. I mean it's twisted and all that but you feel good because he was wanted on domestic violence charges. So it's like a feel-good movie, the badguy is the badguy and all that. posted by tiaka at 11:27 AM on February 22, 2001
Nice simulpost, bytecode! I hope we weren't "hacked"! posted by gimli at 11:28 AM on February 22, 2001
It was probably an asshole cop who did it. The get these 22 year old cowboys fresh out of the academy who get a gun and think they own the town.
It's funny, the word "hacker" is starting to serve the same purpose as "criminal": it dehumanizes the offender, so it's easier to (a) be afraid of him/her, and (b) screw him/her to the wall when they finally get caught. posted by jpoulos at 11:36 AM on February 22, 2001
ah. the nasty hackers strike again. posted by macewan at 11:43 AM on February 22, 2001

If he had played some Sammy Hagar era Van Halen the jumper would be road pizza by now. posted by bondcliff at 11:59 AM on February 22, 2001
I too am a bad person, that was hilarious. posted by xtrmntr at 12:04 PM on February 22, 2001
people who steal lunches out of community refrigerators deserve all the nailing-to-the-wall they can possibly get.
i am still recovering from the traumatic 1995 theft of the last piece from a really good batch of my homemade lasagne from a refrigerator at the downtown offices of Norfolk Southern Railroad in Atlanta, Georgia. i will not rest until the perpetrator is apprehended. for great justice!
that said, the 'hacker' who played "Jump" was obviously something of a sick puppy, but that did not stop me from snickering as I read the story. posted by Sapphireblue at 12:04 PM on February 22, 2001
you're all bad people. just reading this thread leaves a foul taste in my mouth. i dont think it's funny and you all ought to be ashamed of yourselves. posted by palegirl at 12:26 PM on February 22, 2001
palegirl, that sounds like "hacker talk" to me.

I bet palegirl was the aforementioned ha-x-or and is just covering up his/her crime. posted by tiaka at 2:02 PM on February 22, 2001
My mother used to tell me not to do what every one else said to do. If they said to jump from a building, would I do it? posted by Postroad at 2:12 PM on February 22, 2001
We would only be bad people for laughing if the guy had actually jumped due to the song. Nah, not even then.
Suicide is not funny, but a guy who is trying to avoid being prosecuted for domestic abuse has pretty much forfeited my sympathy. posted by sudama at 3:35 PM on February 22, 2001
egads. i find myself in agreement with bondcliff AND sudama ON THE SAME THREAD.
