My Buddy - A Four Act Passion Play. You're a young musician, just out of school and thrilled to get a gig with one of the greatest drummers who ever lived. Little do you realize you've just stepped into Sideman Hell.

About twenty years ago in junior high, my band instructor played a recording he made on Buddy Rich's tour bus that sounded just like this one. We thought it was the funniest thing we ever heard. My band instructor also said it was like that almost every night. He quit very soon after joining.

and buddy also had a black belt in karate, so when he said "We could find other ways settle it," it's because he knew he could completely pulverize the guy. a real sweetheart!

joke: one of buddy rich's musicians calls the office right after buddy dies, and asks when they're going on tour again. the secretary says, "didn't you hear? buddy passed away." the sideman hangs up. next day he calls again and asks when the tour starts. the same secretary tells him again that buddy's dead and there will be no tour. the sideman thanks her and hangs up. next day he calls again and asks when the tour is supposed to start. this time the secretary yells "why do you keep calling? this is the third time i've told you! buddy's dead!"

and the sideman says, "i know...but i just love to hear you say that."

I just don't understand why he can't keep good talent.

I remember reading a comic book of this tape (or one like it) back in high school when I was in band. I thought, just like grefo, that it was the funniest thing I'd heard.

You know, for a heroin addict, Buddy Rich was awfully jumpy.
