dack kills his blog
". I want to spend more time making short films, playing golf, and reading books. But what I really want to do is make computers, and specifically the Web, a much smaller part of my life."
I guess there's no enjoyment left in poking fun at dot.com vanity in this day and age...

Oh he'll be back. True bloggers have a vanity streak a mile wide. He'll get lonesome when he doesn't have people e-mailing him every day commenting on his thoughts. Unless he's shaved his head and is on the next airplane to Tibet, he'll be back.

So, was there ever really a Dack at all?

Well you can't expect a popular blog to buck a growing trend now can you?

good for him. people should do that periodically with every facet of their lives.

I resent that. My blogging vanity streak is at least two miles wide. :D

now that the blog has caught on, ex-bloggers are secretly congregating and planning for the next big stage of internet mind control. dack and lance arthur and ben brown and anil dash or in a secret base in seattle as we speak, preparing to take over the world.

Stewart seems to have killed his, too.

The web gets disheartening. As does it all...

No offense to Dack, but I'm mourning Stewart's disappearance...

On the other hand, I get to be mentioned in the same sentence with Lance. How cool is that?

Dack was the first weblog I followed daily. Some friend told me to check out the web economy bullshit generator, and I found Dack's commentary and topics varied and funny. Sorry to see it go. I guess I'll have to work another couple minutes a day instead of checking him out.

Thanks, Dack. Fairways and greens, buddy.

What about a meta-suck list in memoriam?
posted by leafy at 9:00 AM on May 21, 2001

There will be plenty of new excellent bloggers coming along to replace the retiring ones. Perhaps the A-list (there is no A-listâ„¢) won't notice them for a long time, but others will.

Good idea, leafy!

http://www.metasuck.com is available. It could have the same format as MetaFilter and be like Dack's Suck List 2001 page. I always thought that could be a self-functioning organism (and of course, with a proprietor who wants to sacrifice all his personal time like mathowie).

shameless plug:

I'm still pissed off at the Taliban in Afghanistan for destroying the world's tallest statue of Buddha. I have a reactionary piece in my head that I want to make into a Flash file, but it's not quite ready yet.

I guess you haven't heard yet, cfeit, that Flash is Evil.

I thought the sucklist was so funny. Dack has a really interesting take on life and taught me a lot. Sad to see you go, mate.
Metasuck.com is a great idea, but who would run it?

Another hat-tip for Stewart. He's given us great things. Looking forward to seeing what comes 'later in 2001'.

(And I wouldn't worry about those 'I could have done a PhD by now' feelings, Stweart. Either way, it's three years of reading and sitting in front of a computer...)
posted by rory at 8:47 PM on May 21, 2001

(Ahem. You shouldn't worry either, Stewart. And that Stweart guy can look after himself.)

True bloggers have people e-mailing them every day? Hot damn...

(Hey, and as we all now know: false bloggers do too!)

You people get mail every day?

Hmmm... I guess maybe it *is* just me.

Damn, these worms are tasty...
