Picsearch

Picsearch is (as the more linguistically adept might have guessed) a search engine designed expressly for images. It's only been live for a month, so it hasn't spidered nearly the volume of google's image search, but it's on the right track. Are there others I don't know about?

Don't forget Ditto.com.

I searched for MeFi, thinking nothing would turn up and I could condemn it to utter damnation. In fact seven quite beautiful logos turned up, all with a different little message. So I'm afraid it's way to go, picsearch.

Nice. Picsearch seems to result in far more useful finds than say...Ditto.com. Less quantity, more quality. Thanks gleuschk.

And it's written by Swedes. What could be better?

Looks like picsearch pulled a 123hosting. Compare their search tips with All About Google.

After trying a few sample searches I have to say Google Image Search is the one to beat, in both quantity and quality. Compare a search for "particle accelerator". Google: 149. Picsearch: 2. (Also, Google lets you read the URL right off the results page without have to click for it, which is nice.) Still, nice to have choices.

Um, not to sound like I work for Altavista (I don't), but their image search engine came up with 1684 images when I searched for photos or graphics, B&W or color, with the words 'particle accelerator.'

When I first saw this thread, I thought I saw "PIsearch." I thought maybe it was some kind of SETI@home thing to finally nail down that final digit ...

Mmmmmm ... pi ...

that final digit ...

Ain't no such animal.

Don't make me break out the tired old bit about rational/irrational/transcendental numbers. There's nothing scarier than a geek with an axe to grind.

(Hey, new tagline.)

Naw, Crunch, the quote marks are critical to glue the terms together. Searching "particle accelerator" on image.altavista only yields 7 hits...
