Got Beer?Well, this is the most offensively stupid article I've seen in quite some time. [stolen from Ars] People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is promoting the benefits of drinking beer instead of milk. Of course, there isn't one word about impairment of motor functions, alcoholism, or liver damage.

There are plenty of places to hear about the dangerous effects of alcohol. For the irony-impaired, the point PETA is making is that milk is dangerous to your health as well, contrary to the FUD spread by the dairy industry.

I guess I just found it more farsical than ironic. However legitimate their complaints about milk may be, I think they only undermine their point by extolling the nutritional value of beer. At least they didn't promote a really dangerous alternative like the deadly Dihydrogen Monoxide.

Wouldn't it be ironic if somebody were to get really drunk based on the information on that page and go out and kill some animals. Not a pretty picture, but ironic none the less.

PETA comes across as the Religious Right of the Left; very strongly-held non-mainstream beliefs, getting in our collective faces with them and with a desire to impose them on the rest of us (but a lot less effective at that as the Righties). Substitute "fetus" for "animal" and you have the anti-abortion movement, and I've never been able to wrap my mind around the idea of granting full human rights to either of them, at least not until we've granted full human rights to full humans.
