Apparently, Bush and Gore really are the same . . . While it looks like a brillant AdBusters culture jamming experiment, this was apparently just a simple 'proofreading' mistake.

C'mon. The 18" Stonehenge prop in Spinal Tap was a "proofreading" error.

What part of "Al Gore 2000" and "big picture of Al Gore" couldn't the sign maker understand?

At this point, I'd like to say a few words about the Illuminati, but I've just put my life in danger. Gotta go.

The people responsible for proofreading this billboard have been sacked.

In Wisconsin too? There are none around Chicago, but I saw a bunch on the way to Detroit.

I like Mike's theory that they're an incipient Nader ad ...

(Who cares about spell check ... I just love having a working preview!)

I live in North Florida near Jacksonville, and I have seen a few of the religious billboards you're talking about, Skallas. One of them sets me off every time I drive by it on Highway 1 between Saint Augustine and Jacksonville. It reads:

"I don't question your existence." - God

How could anyone believe that this message is persuasive?

I noticed on the Adbusters site that 11/24/2000 was Buy Nothing Day. I've already put together an entire shopping list of things I'm not going to buy.

Yeah, 'cause if I'm an omniscient, all loving being, I'm gonna be REAL impressed by some jackass throwing up billboards and signing my name to them.

Not like you could do something useful with the money. Feed the poor, or something lame like that.

Actually it wasn't a proof reading error, David St. Hubbins wrote " instead of ' when drawing the stonegenge design on a napkin.

argh. note to self: don't view metafilter in more than one window, or you'll confuse yourself and lose a post...

i was going to say, instead of spewing vitriol once again re: the God Speaks billboards, I will link to the last time I did that here; the thread provides some answers to the God Speaks 'mystery'.

and, rcade: hey, shoutouts from north jax beach. there's a pair of us -- don't tell!

There's nothing like a big, grinning image of GWB to drive voters to Gore.
