Derek's long overdue explanation of the "I hate weblogs" comment. It's a good one.
now, i think the world of derek, but isn't it kind of fishy that this comes the day after "Pyra taps Powazek Productions" -- i mean, doesn't he have a vested interest in loving weblogs?

i think palegirl raises a good point... what will this Powazek character try to take over next? First he promotes beautiful literature on The Fray, and now he's trying to get people to voice their opinions using Blogger? And wasting our valuable time by linking us to brilliant sites like Soul Flare?? I for one, have had enough. I've smartened up, and I'm going to start spending all of my time on valuable projects that matter.

i didn't say he's trying to take over anything. and i have tons of respect for derek and his work. that post is rather knee-jerk, i think. i was just saying that the timing of that post is a little odd -- not attacking derek.
and just to backpedal a little -- he's probably thinking more about weblogs in general since this pyra gig and was consequently sparked to post that thought.

no no - don't backpedal, palegirl. I mean lets face it, Derek has had it in for weblogs for a long time - but I think this goes beyond that. What *is* derek's hidden agenda? Why is he so "generous" about "encouraging" people to add their content to his sites? Why does he need to create an alibi with these timestamped "blog" entries? WHAT EXACTLY IS THIS MAN HIDING??? I mean, come on! "Powazek" - like *that's* a real name!

palegirl, if it makes you feel any better, Derek told me weeks ago what is contained in his post tonight. It's something he's been thinking about for a while, the timing is just coincidence.

Though I love a good conspiracy as much as the next web reader, I have to agree with Matt on this one. Derek and I have been chatting about his weblog opinion reversal for awhile, and the Pyra announcement is just coincidence. That's what he's got me believing at least. But hmmm...that guy *is* good...perhaps?
