I just took my first photography class and had a lot of fun. (
Thanks AskMe!) One of the best things was getting shooting assignments. Are there groups of people who give themselves shooting assignments, say weekly, and then share and discuss the results? Where are they?

I am planning a trip to Chicago this weekend, and my goal is to learn the L by picking fun stops across the city (my husband and I are ex-New Yorkers who love mass transit.) What are some suggestions for fun places to shop/eat/sight-see that are close to L stops? Our starting point is Diversey and N Clark, but we hope to cover a lot of territory. Please include descriptions about your recommendations and (of course) the nearest L station name.

Help me find places to eat in Chicago. I don't think I've been to a bad restaurant there, but I'm looking for new places, plus I'm looking to save money on this trip. For added difficulty, 2/3 of my entourage will be vegetarian, so a variety for them would be nice.

I'm a straight, white, upper middle class male. I'm aware that this automatically means I generally have an easier time than people with a different sexuality/race/class/gender. That said, I'm probably unaware of what these benefits are.
What does this 'privileged' status do for me that I don't even notice?

I've had what I think is a decent idea for a website. Rather than asking someone to "punch it up" in their "spare time" I'd like to learn to do it myself. I know a bit about html and took a turbo pascal class 11 years ago. Since then it's been all humanities, social science, and law. What do I need to learn and what, in your experience, are the best books/web sites to learn from?

Best book for a beginner to learn C? I've never learned a programming language, but I'm hoping to learn C over the summer. My friend, a computer science student, is going to teach me as he learns it. We would like a textbook or reference book or work book of some kind. What would be a good choice?

I've been a vegetarian all my life, but caught the fitness bug last year. I lost around 80lbs in about a year by jogging, working out at the gym and following a strict diet. Although I feel that my vegetarian diet is supplementing me well, I'd like to try non-vegetarian food just to see if I'm missing out on anything. More inside!

Traveling to Oaxaca with a friend for a 2-4 week Spanish immersion program this June/July. We are looking for some advice about Spanish language programs, homestays/lodging, and transportation. We are having a very difficult time finding a good learning program—there are so many to choose from and we don't quite know what to look for and how to determine which ones are good.

I would like sharp cheddar. The best sharp cheddar recommendations you've got. Complex, subtle cheddars are great, but I'm also feenin' for cheddar that is sharp beyond belief. So if you don't have the cheddar equivalent of a 25-year old Bowmore, a perfectly acceptable alternative is the cheddar equivalent of a ziploc bag full of Everclear. Let the cheese strike my taste buds, hard.

I'd like to learn more about tripods. Whenever I visit a camera store or a store site, or Manfrotto's site, I'm bewildered, and I'd rather not be. Instead of asking for recommendations based on my criteria (as in previous questions
here and
here), I'd like to understand tripods (and heads) as a category so that I can figure out for myself what I need for whatever it is I have in mind, whether it's my digital SLR, a MiniDV video camera, or even a small apochromatic refractor or spotting scope. Are there any resources online, or any books, that I can start with?

Get me to take more pictures! I bought a DSLR last year, but other than a week trip to Paris, I haven't used the camera extensively. Sometimes I feel it might be the size (a camera around your neck, to me, screams TOURIST). I've thought about walking around the neighborhood (I live in Chicago's north side), but have never gotten out the front door with my camera. I have no problem with my pocket camera.
