Ask post: My boyfriend told me the other day how many sexual partners he's had...
Not to sound like a total relativist here, but -- to me -- it hinges, in part, on what your definition of "a bit too many" is. 10? 20? 200? And how old is your boyfriend? 22? 45? Has he been sexually active for 2 years, or 20? Because to me, all those different numbers -- the number of his partners, and his age, and the number of years he's been sexually active -- tell a relevant story about who he is. A 20-year-old who's been sexually active for 5 years who's had 40 partners... [more]

He might have explanations that will make you feel better.

Jesus christ... or maybe he'll choose to have some pride and NOT feel like he needs to explain or justify things to you that happened before you even existed in his life?

Telling you this totally not-necessary was him taking a big risk. Please notice and respect that, so that he can decide whether he should be honest in the future, or not.

I'm kind of surprised at the answers; your boyfriend was honest with you about something he can't change and shouldn't be a huge deal. What is to be gained by making hay about it? He can't go back in time and change things. As long as he is faithful to you what difference does it make how many people he has slept with in the past? I'd work through this on your own. I don't see much of an upside to bringing it up and I see quite a lot of potential downside.

I also... [more]

Ask post: Obesity vs. income?
When I was last in the states and really strapped for cash, I was gobsmacked at just *how* much cheaper it was to eat crap than to buy healthy food. It not just the "richer, tastier food" that is more expensive, its the fruit and vegetables and lean meat. You can buy a hell of a lot more shitty noodles and pizza and white bread for a couple of dollars than vegetables.

Plus the cheap food is so crappy and low in nutrients you tend to eat more calories just to... [more]

Ask post: they murdered her
I love dogs. Love love love dogs. I love pit bulls--I rescued one from the streets of Baltimore a few years ago and found her a lovely home, only not keeping her because one of my roommates was allergic.

But I also have a realistic viewpoint of dogs. When you have a dog that is killing other animals due to poor training, a dog that is going out of its way to kill other animals (and make no mistake, breaking through a fence and... [more]

Your friend is not "not a vindictive person" for not calling animal control. He's a pussy. And I say that as a dog lover and a peacenik.

MeFi post: Mr. Good Enough
Well, unless you genetically engineer the perfect mate in your basement laboratory, you're going to be marrying a flawed human being with all kinds of faults and frailties and foibles (like a weakness for alliteration, for instance), so it goes without saying that on some level, you're settling, I guess.
