How did having a baby change your life?

How did having a baby change your life? I'm intentionally leaving the question as broad as it is and would love to hear your answers, mothers and fathers; but especially in regard to how it may have changed you, as a person. My wife is expecting in 5 weeks, I feel both tremendous excitement, but also a slight anxiety as I know my life will never be the same.

Hack My Baby

Give me your baby hacks! My wife and I are expecting our first child in November. What tips and tricks can you offer us to make our lives a lot easier? For example, a friend of mine swears that putting a crying baby in front of a mirror will cause it to stop. Another uses noise cancelling headphones to temper the noise from his shrieking child. I am looking for hacks on everything from diaper changing to stroller modifications. Make our lives easier as we enter into parenthood.

Most amazing places in NYC to hang out?

What are the most incredible, maybe slightly offbeat, places in New York City to hang out? Stunning rooftop bars, strange nighttime museums, secret gardens, bizarre burlesques, etc. and more all welcome. Alcohol availability a plus.

Cold Case Investigation Resource

I am currently working on a murder investigation ("cold case") for a journalism project that I am working on. I have access to a lot of witnesses and evidence. I am looking for the best resource (treatise, primer, etc.) to use in conducting the investigation.

What can I do to support my wife through delivering our baby?

What can I do to help my wife during the delivery of our first child? She is due in the next few weeks, and I would like to have some ideas of how I can help her through delivery so that I don't feel like I am standing around doing nothing.

East Village Filter: Where to meet?

I'd like to meet an old friend in the East Village on Saturday afternoon, but everywhere's become a bank!? What's a good place to meet that's not too loud, not too fancy, etc?

How to watch the SuperBowl online?

How can I watch the SuperBowl XLII online? Neither of cable channels here in my country will air it (ESPN aired everything BUT the SuperBowl) so I need to try the Internet!

Wildlife rehabilitation videos

Wildlife rehabilitators take care of wounded or orphaned animals, nursing them back to health and preparing them for a life back in the wild. This leads to a lot of cute baby animal videos. (Roll over for descriptions.)

Best program to get your downloaded movies to play on your DVD?

Help me not spend $70 on Nero. What is a good piece of free stuff or more moderately priced program that will effectively help me convert stuff I download from the web (avi, torrent stuff) to a DVD or VCD so I can play it on my TV?

Scholarship on stereotyping accurately!

What are the best scholarly books and articles in any field that would bear on how you might rapidly assess a person and predict aspects of his or her behavior based on various easily (not *necessarily* instantly) ascertainable characteristics (demographic information, body language, speaking patterns, ethnicity, education, etc.)?

Advice/opinions on CRMs?

I'm a web designer and a new client is interested in a CRM (Client Relationship Management). I've never used them (though have used plenty of CMSes). She's mentioned SalesForce and I've taken a scoop through their site. I'm wondering a) what other CRMs MeFites can recommend and b) if anyone has any first-hand experience with SalesForce itself and can offer any opinion. Thanks.

What's the most compelling, narrative-driven (perhaps), "how to start your own business" book you've read?

PR gurus, please hope me!

Press release distribution services! About six years ago, I coordinated the development and delivery of weekly press releases for my then-employer. I recall looking at and evaluating a variety of online distribution services before eventually settling on a service that was either free or very inexpensive. [+]

Books on Startup Management?

I'm now managing my third startup, having successfully built and sold the first two. Nonetheless, despite my supposed expertise, I often have the sense that I'm totally faking it, completely flying blind. Are there any good books on startup company management? All the entrepreneurship books I've found are exceedingly basic, and focus only on business plan writing / fundraising; conversely, all the standard management books seem tailored only to Fortune 500s. Anything in between? A good book on how to manage a fast-growing (and, this time, non-tech) startup company day to day?

The art of the con

Do you know your close-up con games? Some classics: the Tip, the Jamaican Switch, the Wire (and its incredibly complicated cousin, the Rag), the Texas Twist, the Pigeon Drop, the Spanish Prisoner (or Nigerian Scam) and the ancient pig-in-a-poke. Also, learn the argot of the classic con artist, view some videos of card scam moves and discover some patter as well, or just see how the language of the con has been used in one of the more famous papers in sociology.
