Someday she'll come along, the purse I love

Please help me find a purse that is well-made enough to last being used every day for years, good-looking enough that I'll want to, that costs less than $200 (preferably closer to $100) and meets my requirements detailed within.

Please recommend happy rap songs.

Does anyone know of any happy, zippy, upbeat rap that I can run to? My last question about music made me realize there is a lot of stuff out there I've never heard.

Roasted chèvre, please

Mmmm... cheese. I went to a tapas restaurant the other day and one of the things we ordered was roasted chèvre — essentially a sticky warm blob of goat's milk cheese in a dish. The edges were brown, perhaps caramelized, and it tasted deliciously sweet. How do I make it? And do I need a butane torch to do it?

Help rescue my resume, is it worth $695?

Help me rescue my resume! So the resume writers from TheLadders.com want $695 to rewrite my resume, my sister who seems to get every job she applies for says I don't need to, I am not sure. Should I go to a resume service? Who?

The fifty greatest comedy sketches of all time from Nerve and IFC. All with video. Some highlights: SNL's consumer probe & word association; Mr. Show's pretaped call-in show, Upright Citizens Brigade's ass pennies, The State's porcupine racetrack, lots of Monty Python, some classics, and the inevitable winning sketch.

Can you guys recommend any resources for learning assertive communication? In my family I learned to avoid conflict at all costs. Therefore, I don't know how to approach "difficult conversations" directly.

Cheddar? I barely know 'er!

I would like sharp cheddar. The best sharp cheddar recommendations you've got. Complex, subtle cheddars are great, but I'm also feenin' for cheddar that is sharp beyond belief. So if you don't have the cheddar equivalent of a 25-year old Bowmore, a perfectly acceptable alternative is the cheddar equivalent of a ziploc bag full of Everclear. Let the cheese strike my taste buds, hard.

Getting Documents Off Old PC

I'm trying to get all the pertinent documents off of a Gateway 2000 PC running Windows 98 on to a new Dell running Vista Home Premium. The CD drive on the Gateway doesn't work, it has a floppy drive, and the CAT5 cable doesn't fit in the telephone only jacks. I tried to use my USB stick, but it can't find the drivers as it's not connected to the internet. The new computer has no floppy drive, so I can't just put the driver on a floppy. What do you recommend for the lowest cost and easiest solution?

Things you never thought you could do with your camera

One of the most amazing user-led projects out there, CHDK firmware turns cheap Canon cameras into photography powerhouses. You can take take time-lapse movies as in this stunning sunset example; automatically photograph lightening; easily make pretty HDR images and stereograms; have unlimited depth-of-field; and, perhaps most impressively, take photographs with shutter speeds of 1/60,000 of a second!

Recommendations for a history curriculum

I went to a liberal arts school, and am ashamed to say that my knowledge of world history is depressingly lacking. I want to learn at least enough about world history to have the “highlight reel” clear in my head. Could anyone recommend a collection of works that would help me out?

How do I grocery shop and cook?

I've been living on my own for about five years now, but I still cannot for the life of me understand grocery shopping. I've tried buying the staples, easy-to-cook meals, and even specific recipes. But I always end up ordering take out after a week.

What are some good blogs/sites that are like kottke.org?

I love reading sites like kottke.org and Neatorama (and, of course, Metafilter). It's exciting - I never know what I'll come across next. What are some other sites that have lots of interesting stuff, preferably on a daily basis (but less often is fine as long as the content is high quality)?

Help me study human anatomy!

Your favorite human anatomy study resources? I'm looking for the best online quizzes, websites, and flashcards, as well as the best paper flashcards. More detailed is favored over less detailed--though right now they're only for my EMT-B certification, eventually I'd like them to carry me all the way to my EMT-P (Paramedic).

Which Solid Gold Dancer are you?

Solid Gold was a television show that ran from 1980 to 1988, on Saturdays, in the early evening, hosted by (among others) Dionne Warwick, Rick Dees, and Marilyn McCoo. It showcased snippets of the Top Ten popular songs of the week, accompanied and sometimes interpreted by the Solid Gold Dancers. This post is about them.

Large Marge sent him.

He was born in 1980, during a risqué Groundlings show. After cameo roles (NSFW/language) in two Cheech & Chong movies, he earned his own HBO special. Four years later, Pee Wee Herman made his first feature film. Love him or hate him, his tv show won 22 Emmys... it seemed he was the luckiest boy in the world. Until one fateful day. Since then he's kept busy, and has regularly started and then nixed rumors of the bow tie's return. Recently he's changed his mind though, and in June a middle-aged Pee Wee made a surprise appearance after 15 years. Now he's promising two upcoming Pee Wee films... but will Johnny Depp take over his giant underpants?

Nothing fits!

I can't dress myself. After two babies in four years I have too much tummy and waist and not enough tush, and I'm unable to find jeans that fit. When they fit in the waist they are too big everywhere else (and vice versa - can you say muffin top?). I'm 5'6" and have relatively thin legs, if that helps. Please recommend styles and brands of jeans and pants that might fit my unfortunate body type!

The Legacy of Lynching

African American Holocaust [Warning: contains graphic material] Nearly 5,000 black Americans were lynched between 1890 and 1960. In her new book, On the Courthouse Lawn: Confronting the Legacy of Lynching in the Twenty-First Century, University of Maryland School of Law Associate Professor Sherrilyn Ifill traces the ongoing impact of these crimes. While the lynchings were devastating, Professor Ifill argues that the little-known contemporary consequences, such as the marginalization of political and economic development for blacks, are equally pernicious, and that there's still a great deal of education and reconciliation that still needs to happen.
