Like so many other people, you have a stack of old t-shirts you never wear. Perhaps you've gotten beyond wearing obscene slogans or Strawberry Shortcake logos. Or you feel it's time to retire that “Team Hillary” shirt. Or your favourite old shirt no longer fits over the impressive pecs/food hump you've acquired since high school. Or you've had it with MeFi and you want a way to repurpose/savage your MeFi blue t-shirt. No need to be at a loss! You might just settle for making a
different style of
t-shirt, but you can also use those t-shirts to make
diapers for your baby,
clothes for your
toddler, or adult-sized
undies,
skirts or
dresses. Or a
bikini. Just beware of saggage.
I mean, of the bikini, after it gets water-logged. You also might make tote bags or pillows, car seat covers, baby wipes, or dusters. If you get really ambitious, you can
make a t-shirt quilt, taking inspiration from the
many examples on the net. If I haven't given you enough ideas, you can turn to the ever
authoritative and
exhaustive AskMe, or you can do some
further reading on the
topic. Just don't get so carried away that you wind up having to go to work topless tomorrow.
Unless, of course, your career path requires that anyway.

In January of 2004, Disney
shut down their Florida animation studio, part of their decision to
move away from 2D, or cell-shaded, animation
for good. Two years later, as part of the new deal with Pixar, John Lasseter and Ed Catmull were brought in as heads of Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios, and promptly declared that 2-D Animation would thrive again on their watch. For their first new project, the team wanted to show support for the still-struggling New Orleans, and simultaneously introduce
Disney's first Black Princess in
"The Frog Princess" (Or
The Princess and the Frog, as it is now known), a fairy tale set in 1920's Jazz-era Louisiana, with Randy Newman providing a
period-specific score.
Much response to the project has been
quite positive, but as with all things,
the devil is in the details.

"'Uncle Adolf' referred to William Patrick as 'my loathsome nephew'." Willy Hitler, the son of Adolf Hitler's half-brother
Alois Hitler, Jr., is one member of
Hitler's extended family, although he wasn't easy to
track down. After WWII, he changed his name and tried to live a private, secret life in the United States. Now, his three sons, relatives of Hitler living normal, regular American lives, have decided to never marry and let their family line die with them.

Well, young folk, there was a time, y'know, when bands would put their band name on the kick drum head, so the audience could see the name of the band, y'see? Why, best as I can recall, the
The Yardbirds did it, and
The Zombies, too. And
The Hollies. Oh, and did I mention
The Yardbirds? Well, my memory's not what it used to be... oh, and there was those boys from Liverpool, used to sing about
Kansas Cty so well, why, you'd think they'd actually
been there! Now, there was this one band called themselves the
Spencer Davis Group, but I never could figure out why, cause it was that little Winwood fella just outta knee pants who was the star of
that show!

I used to get the cheapest liquid soap for washing hands I could find, but recently, I got the "shea butter" soap for $3 and found that the increased quality more than makes up for the increased cost. The question is: What else can I spend a little more on to get much more quality? (Fluffy towels, sheets, maybe?) Are there websites that review this?

Women's urban clothing. I'd like to find more brands of clothing like
G-Star Raw and
Triple 5 Soul. I particularly like
this jacket and
this shirt and
this blazer. What are other retailers or brands that sell kinda tough, kinda sexy, kinda rugged apparel, specifically for women?

Live Local Coverage Of Hurricane Katrina
New Orleans television stations
WWL
and
WDSU
are providing nonstop live coverage of Hurricane Katrina. The
Mississippi Department Of
Transportation has live cams along the major highways which show the massive evacuation of the coastal areas of Louisiana and Mississippi including the metropolitan areas of New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. With gusts of 207 MPH this could set a new record for the largest hurricane to ever hit the United
States.

A.D. (After The Deluge)
is a serialized webcomic about what it was like in the days leading up to, during & immediately after the Hurricane Katrina disaster in New Orleans. The story is true, all dialogue taken from direct quotes. An ongoing project with updates monthly (scheduled to run from Dec 06 - Dec 07), the most recent chapter takes place right at the end of the storm, prior to the collapse of the levees, but to get the full effect,
read from the very beginning. For those who want to know more about the project, there's an
FAQ.

So, the new boy's in a band! When one has just started dating a musician, does one need to go to every show, or is, say, one out of two ok? Does one need to sit in the very front?

You,
wife,
your husband, minister, of the strict Calvinist stripe. You're well educated and deign to have your own ideas which challenge your husband's beliefs. For your own protection, to keep you from infecting the children with your heretical ideas, and just basically to control you, your husband has you committed to an
insane asylum. A doctor at the hospital agrees and you are imprisoned, most likely for life. If you sign a paper agreeing to never challenge your husband's beliefs again, you can be free. Too proud, you refuse and remain confined. You do
write a book though.

I enjoy reading the
Knight Science Journalism Tracker, an MIT website that gives timely peer review to popular science journalism. Can anyone recommend similar sites or blogs that do the same for other types of news. I'd love to find a site that uses a similar format to both cover world events and critique their coverage at the same time, for example.
