How do blind people navigate college campuses?
IANA Blind Person.
But I did a sort of research project at one point where I tried to "go blind" for a week. I had a friend who was blind who actually suggested it when I was asking about what it was like.
He supplied me with a cane, and I MacGyvered up a pair of sunglasses with foam pads glued to the inside of the lenses that rested comfortably on my closed eyelids. At night, I'd switch from the glasses to one of those sleeping eye... [more]

Tough Love
You know what I've fucking had it with? All this "pre-heat" bullshit. I'm sorry people, but either you fucking heat something, or you fucking don't. There is no fucking in-between. When the oven is off, it's cold. When you turn it on, it's warm. And that's IT! That's all there is to it!
You wanna know what pre-heating is? I'll tell you what it fucking is. It's whatever the hell you were doing before you turned the oven on. Like, oh, I don't know,... [more]

ND¢'s two cents cause a shitstorm. News at 11.
Some months back my mother made pickled cauliflower, and she brought a jar over for Thanksgiving, along with pickled peppers and dills. While all three jars were quite good, I'd been looking forward to the cauliflower in particular because she'd made the batch by adding into the brine a handful of mustard seeds. There's something incredibly, almost majestically savory about the combination of these particular brassica.
After we were sat at the table,... [more]

Anyone ever been "caught" using the handicapped stall?
For some reason one evening I found myself intoxicated and in need to use the facilities. I happened to be at a Wal-Mart. I don't know why or how, but that's where I was.
There are three stalls, and two were broken, leaving only the handicapped stall available. It was about midnight and the store was a ghost town, so I decided I'd use it quick and get out. Not because I was able and using the handicapped stall, but because I was drunk and in a goddamned Wal-Mart at... [more]

What to say to son coming out?
Anon, You appear to be gay friendly, but coming out is a scary scary moment. My father's best friend was a lesbian. My mother had two friends I grew up calling "Aunt" & "Uncle". Neither of those titles were applied to the appropriate gender. You'd think I would have had the easiest time coming out. Fact is, I'm still scared to do it. Oh, I'm sure my parents have figured out I'm gay, they stopped referring to my potential mates by gender specific pronouns ages ago.... [more]

Seems strange to me that when you encounter an exceptional animal you want to kill it.

All-inclusive resort advice
I can recommend Sandals St. Lucia. They have two resorts there - you want the one that is cute little bungalows, not the one that is a huge hotel. As mentioned, you can shuttle bus on over to the other one at anytime to enjoy the facilities (more restaurants, etc). Amazing food, although I wasn't vegetarian at the time. Lots of options and fresh fruit and veggies so I am sure there will be plenty of menu options. Easy enough to hop off-resort and explore the rest of the island as well.
