It's about time for another LA meetup, wouldn't you say?

So I always have boring haircuts. Standard businessman cut type. Cause I'm lazy and hate having to do anything with it in the morning. And this morning I realized it is now at the point where it needs to be cut as it's looking, well, like it needs to be cut. (How it looks right now:
me1,
me2,
me3, though for some reason in the pics it looks a lot less in need of cleanup than it does in real life.)
So I'd like to do something a bit more interesting, a bit more daring. Not much, but a little. I'm kind of in a turning myself around mentally state, and it's passing over into things like this. And you know what style (roughly) I like? David Tennant-ish messy. Seen
here and
here....

I had spoken with Matt about a month ago about the idea of doing a Metafilter documentary in time for the tenth anniversary. I'd still like to do it but am looking for help.

ClothingFilter: When dressing casually, I often wear button-down shirts out, rather than tucked in. The problem is that the moment you sit down, the bottom third of the shirt becomes a wrinkled mess, and looks terrible. Assuming I'm not going to remain standing forever, is there a particular brand, type, or material of shirt that avoids this problem?

Back in 1964, a documentary was commissioned by Granada Television called
Seven Up!, which aimed to test the old Jesuit maxim “Give me the child until he is seven and I will give you the man” by studying the lives of a group of children from various backgrounds to see how their lives would develop. Every seven years thereafter, director
Michael Apted has returned to see where their lives have taken them, in a series of films known as
The Up Series. You can read a great
overview of the series here. Some have followed the path expected of them. Others have moved halfway across the world.
Some have even set up their own webpage! And others still, like Neil, have found that getting to
what may be your calling in life often requires you to take a signifcant detour,
as this video from the latest edition, 49 Up, shows.

World Leaders Were Kids Once Too
Photos of a whole bunch of world leaders as kids up through adulthood. Hey, Reagan was Teh Buff! And proof that Joe Stalin was NOT born with that mustache!

Grupthink
Grupthink, "a living source of collective wisdom," is a project under development where I work; it's a new way for anyone to ask open-ended questions and post topics, and for anyone to respond to them, and explore other users' responses. As one of the senior developers put it, if Grupthink were a
cocktail beverage, this might be the recipe:
* 1/2 oz. Wiki
* 1/2 oz. Online polling
* 1/4 oz. Photo sharing
* 1/4 oz. Web 2.0 Buzzword Mix (ajax, social media, etc.), and
* One (1) offensively large stalk of celery.
But seriously, it can be serious fun: anyone can create open-ended, dynamic polls that are open to anyone else and the polls morph over time as users change their minds—revising old responses, adding new ones—and as new users join the site. Plus, you can vote for your favorite responses, rank them, and add comments.
We launched the Grupthink beta in April 2006 and we're continually making—and open to hearing about—improvements. So, if you have the time, please browse around and let us know what you think.

The Impersonals
I couldn't find a personals site that I wasn't embarrassed to join, so I made my own. No popularity contests, no horoscopes, no buddy lists. Just profiles made from wide-open text fields and anti-creepiness features baked in at every turn.
(Lifetime membership will be $5, but until it hits 10,000 profiles, it's free.)
