I went through a few weeks of e-mails back and forth with eBay after they merged with half.com and made my account unusable. People, in my experience, are weird about the money they handle. Back in the early '00s, when the new 10s and 20s came out, I regularly had customers refuse the "funny money" in their change at the register.

Just last week there was a guy in front of me at a register who wouldn't take one of the new five dollar bills because it was "ugly." He demanded "real money" from the cashier.

Not a newsmagazine per se, but do consider the Sunday New York Times (you can subscribe to just the Sunday paper). It's like a weekly news magazine, but a whole lot thicker. Certainly, it's going to be significantly more expensive than $30 or so for a year, but reading it makes for a pretty enjoyable Sunday if you have the time and there really aren't a whole lot of publications that can match its breadth.

The Week magazine is sort of a meta-publication, in that it "distills the best of U.S. and foreign press into 44 pages." My folks get it, and while it's a breezy read, it's good way to get caught up on various topics of interest. Subscription comes out to a buck an issue.

Absolutely NOT nthing the Economist. Bias is one thing -- you could just ignore their front-of-the-magazine editorials. But the reporting on the United States is almost universally terrible. One example: their take on Social Security is simply wrong. Not in a moral sense, in a mathematical sense.

I saw it as a troll because the poster has barely any history on the site, he provides details about the behavior of the dog and her callor but doesn't even mention the breed/color/etc of the dog, and I find it really hard to believe that a person living in the United States would be unfamiliar with the stereotype about blacks and dogs.

This is awesome. It's like "I want to ride a rocking horse, but I want to make sure I look cool while doing so." Everyone else is right; there is no concert environment less aloof and more dorky than a room full of TMBG fans. You'll have a great time, don't even worry.
