I've got a bunch of good mixes just waiting to be made.

So it's mid-April already, and I haven't yet heard anything about MefiSwap 2008. So who's in?

Do you know jokes which presuppose obscure knowledge?

I love esoteric jokes, the kind of humor which presupposes a lot of specialized knowledge. The more opaque the joke is, the better. However, by their very nature they're kinda hard to search for on Google, or at least I rarely hit upon the magic searchterms. So, do you know good sites with specialist jokes? If not, do you know any particularly obscure jokes?

All hail DaShiv.

NY Times: "DaShiv is a star, an internationally famous portrait photographer". The article also mentions ThePinkSuperhero and some guy named Matthew Haughey.

Metafilter Cafepress?

Is there still a Metafilter Cafepress store? I'd like to buy another "Coffee is for Closers" mug, but the store seems to have disappeared. If it's truly gone, is there a (non-Cafepress?) alternative where I could get the same mug? (The non-MF mugs I've seen aren't as nice).

Boston Beerlympics - A Booze Drenched Logistical Nightmare?

So while belly up to the bar recently, some friends and I began talking about group activities for the summer. The idea of a “Boston Beerlympcs” came up. The idea is that we’d form a few “nations” or teams that would compete against each other in weekly and biweekly events over the summer. However, like many ideas thought up over a few pints, the execution and logistics eludes us.

Eddie! Don't!

Eddie destroys the ship. Ron Moore's Battlestar Galactica podcasts have been discussed before, but the most recent one contains a gem. At the end of the episode Maelstrom, Edward James Olmos ("Eddie" to his friends on the set) lashes out in an unscripted, improvised, emotional moment, destroying a sailing ship model that had been a frequent prop on the set. Turns out the ship ... ahem ... wasn't a prop, but an extremely valuable museum piece.

Music that makes you lose yourself of get in the zone.

Recently discovered Explosions in the Sky, The music fades away in the background after awhile and I can concentrate on doing work. Anybody else have artists that are simillar or music that helps you get your work done and gets you in that zone. I do not want classical music, sleepy instrumental music and not drum&bass..please.

In other news, tulip futures were unchanged

The Decline of the PS3 Grey Market: Purchases by eBay arbitrageurs were one of the primary drivers of the Playstation 3 release date frenzy. Predictably, the bubble has now burst.

I like to watch.

Got some free time over the New Year's long weekend? Well, here's every episode (or damn near it) of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Boondocks, Clone High, Metalocalypse, Moral Orel, Robot Chicken, South Park (alt), Venture Brothers, Futurama. Or over here, there's all those and more. But wait my friends, there's more, yes, even more: for the same low price, I'll include the Ultimate Motherlode of Music Video (11,500 of them, or your money back!), alphabetized for your viewing pleasure. Just free up some bandwidth, and step inside ...

Looking for a place that rents digital cameras.

Hello all, I am having trouble find a place that rents out digital cameras. I am looking to either rent a Nikon D50, D70, or D100 or possibly, a Canon Digital Rebel XT. (Renting time-frame, 2-3 days.) I am wondering if anyone had any experience with renting high-end digital cams such as these and which place I should trust. I called up a couple of places where I live (Boston, MASS) and none of them offered this.

Working On A Line

This is one of the tracks I submitted to the MeFi music compiiation project, but not the one that will be included on the CD. Dessert Parade is primarily a studio band now, since the four of us have scattered around the country and both the bass player and guitar player are on their way to being Famous Rock Stars. We recorded this one in 2002 for our first release.

Sketchzilla.com

What is this Sketchzilla thing?! It is whatever you want it to be. It's a community art project. It's a funhouse. It's an art gallery. It's a madlib. It's a mad house. It's an html monster. It's a butteryfly ballot. It's the 10 most wanted. It's a flip book. It's noisy. It's the flag of the internet. Oh and it's occasionally NSFW. It is always changing and morphing and mutating in to something new, by you. I can't believe that Sketchzilla was the only surviving member of its species... But if we continue conducting nuclear tests... it's possible that another Sketchzilla might appear somewhere in the world again.

I'm working on favorites and releasing what I have...

I'm working on favorites and releasing what I have today. Think of favorites as an internal bookmark system, a way to keep a list of the good questions, great comments, or interesting ideas you've found here.

Right now, you can mark a thread on mefi, metatalk, or ask mefi as a favorite, and view it at the link in the header above (is the header too wide for small monitors?). All your stuff marked as a favorite is public and anyone else can see the stuff you've marked (this comes in handy later on).

I'll be adding the ability to flag comments later today and very soon I'll be doing something akin to the fantastic posts page on Ask MeFi, where the most favorited things over the past few days is highlighted on a single page.
