Baseball Stat of the Day Blog
How are "Star Trek" fans and baseball fans that different?
Baseball fans have girlfriends?
But to seriously answer your question...baseball is real. That's the biggest difference.

The Design Disease
I think there's a good correlation between good design and the brands that can afford it. Not the quality of the product. Hell, I don't think it, I know it. I've worked on a number of wine accounts and worked several wine label - ENOUGH WITH THE GOLD FOIL ALREADY - projects.
Look, as an agency producer, I'm glad that people care about the work, but I must admit I am entirely cynical about people who "love" graphic design or "love" branding or are... [more]

Georg Gerster aerial photography
I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said:—Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,
Half sunk, a shatter'd visage lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamp'd on these lifeless things,
The hand that mock'd them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal... [more]

Death of a Young Woman
That is a terrible, terrible article (or is it a blog post? I find it harder to tell these days). By contrasting the death of a soldier with the death of a celebrity the author is soiling the memory of both women. There is sadness attached to every death. I think both the article and this post are unnecessary stunts.

Vegetarian is the New Prius.
Is it just me or does anybody get the feeling that with the increased secularism in the liberal world people are casting about for some way to be able to label other people, and probably themselves, as sinners?
I'm not surprised that movements like vegetarianism/dietism/healthism and environmentalism are finding common cause. They are secularized puritan movements granting people a framework for piety, repentance and excommunication. We can no longer condemn people for... [more]

stationery in new york city!
Not sure if this might fall under what you are looking for, as it's not a gift-type store, but...
As far as stationary stuff goes, you might want to look at Richard Meneely; he's an independent printer who does anything hand-made letterpress that you want! He primarily does business on weekends at the Columbus Ave Flea Market (~77th Street) on Sundays, as well as out of his own studio on weekdays.
I love genuine letterpress printing and have... [more]

I'm sorry, what? I can't understand you unless you're speaking in long allegories that have little to do with the actual post. In this case, I reccommend telling us all a story about killing your first brown bear, and how, looking into it's cold dead eyes, you cried.

Big day for Microsoft
I'm just happy that the Vista release gave me this image.
Don't look at it all at once. Go through and individually look at the faces of every person in that picture. Enjoy the experience.

It is not necessary to accept everything as true, one must only accept it as necessary.
Just a (hopefully) helpful hint to ANYONE who's gotten something on their credit report they'd like removed, legitimate or not:
1. Go down to a local CCCS (credit counseling service) and get paper dispute forms to send to the three major credit agencies (Accurint, Experian, Transunion). It looks like you can also find it here. Do not, and I repeat this, DO NOT file a dispute electronically. It's all to easy for them to lose them or just reject them outright with... [more]
