Help me identify this folk/religious tradition/concept

Help me identify: possibly Judaic (maybe Yiddish) folk tradition of a very small group of individuals for whom God allows the world exist. The point being there's no way of knowing if any individual is one of those chosen few, thus necessitating kindness and decency to all.

God is an Astronaut

God is an Astronaut is an instrumental post-rock trio hailing from Ireland. Formed in 2002, they started their own record label, Revive Records, to release their debut album The End of the Beginning. With heavily layered melodies, their music is beautiful and dynamic. They've released three videos Fragile, The End of the Beginning, and From Dust to the Beyond. My personal favorites include Forever Lost and Frozen Twilight. More of their songs can be heard on their Last.fm and Myspace pages. Link to their official website here.

Seattle tourism recommendations please. I'm going to spend a weekend in Seattle soon and would like to hear some tourist options both typical and off-the-beaten-path. Thanks.

No more bounce! Damn ye, Mac dock!

Does anyone know a way to stop icons from bouncing on the OS X doc? I'm NOT talking about unchecking "animate opening applications" in the dock preferences. That only stops opening-app bounces. I want to stop warning bounces, too. They drive me crazy. Please note that I'm using an INTEL Mac (Leopard). I've only been able to find solutions for PowerPC Macs.

are red herrings overdone at this point in the movies?

Are movie audiences today too trained to anticipate a plot twist? (OP does not contain spoilers. Future comments might.)

Life-altering experiences. Can you point to a single experience in your life, as a child, which you can define as having contributed to the person you are today? (+)

I want more satisfaction.

What are some cover versions of well known songs that have refashioned or rearranged the piece so dramatically as to seem not exactly the covered song, but more of a unique work in and of itself?

YouMailFilter: Where can I download fake telco "out of service" messages?

I've been loving YouMail for the past year, as a replacement for VerizonWireless' sucky voicemail, but I've only now started playing around with it's individualized greeting/"ditchmail" features. I'm looking to mess with my friends & co-workers minds using this feature.

I need a new band in an old style.

I’m tired of living in the rock-and-roll past and need a new band. The problem is, nobody’s playing arena rock anymore, as they did in the days of my Def Leppard youth. I’m clueless about the modern rock scene, but I’m hoping there’s a band out there that writes and performs in the vein of the party rock acts like Van Halen. Where is the modern Aerosmith? Can someone suggest a recent band in this style? Or is everything out there just another Green Day clone?

Maybe I should grow hair to put flowers in...

So I get to go to San Francisco/Berkeley for a week over spring break (rather unexpectedly). If it lives up to even a fraction of the hype (it seems to good to be true!) I hope to move out there after college. I've seen the multitude of threads on what to do there, so I'm here to ask what books relating to San Francisco should I read over the next few months to enhance my enjoyment of the trip?

Music that makes you lose yourself of get in the zone.

Recently discovered Explosions in the Sky, The music fades away in the background after awhile and I can concentrate on doing work. Anybody else have artists that are simillar or music that helps you get your work done and gets you in that zone. I do not want classical music, sleepy instrumental music and not drum&bass..please.

Do you live in an area with frequent earthquakes? Can you give some advice?

I've recently moved to San Francisco and experienced my first earthquake. During the very minor quake (so minor I thought it was a truck driving by for a second) I noticed one of my book shelves wobble. So I'm wondering: how can I protect collectibles and such from falling off/breaking in a more serious earthquake?

GPS advice for the lost gift giver?
