Traction Park

Active in the years before padded jungle gyms (and class action lawsuits), Action Park was a sometimes bloody rite of passage for many New Jersey kids. Infamous for its gravity-and-friction-defying looping waterslide and beer gardens, it eventually produced so many injuries that the park bought the surrounding city extra ambulances to cope. It still is alive in many New Jersey hearts today.<-video.

Fantastic fake science books and where to find them

I'm looking for recommendations for fake science books, or humoristic books in the style of a science book. Examples: the Haggis-on-Whey books, or J.K. Rowling's "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them".

Yuppies with Spears

We've done anarchoprimitivism before (1, 2) with mixed results.

Some people have a different take. For my part, I don't think Daniel Quinn ever intended to inspire anything involving Segways.

What are the most intellectually stimulating podcasts?

What podcasts will make me more intelligent just by listening to them? I enjoy the BBC's "In Our Time", which features serious discussion of historical events and people by academics working in the field, and also quirky, thought-provoking programs like WNYC's "Radio Lab" and "This American Life". I'm not so keen on some of the podcasts I typically get from newspapers that gloss over the surface of a subject with little analysis. What other highbrow podcasts are made by people who really know their shit?

banksy has freed his bits

Banksy is giving away images of his work under the following terms and conditions: Everything in the shop is free. All the images can be downloaded to print or use as a desktop. Serving suggestion: Prints look best when done on gloss paper using the company printer ink when everyone else is at lunch. Please do not use this service to launch your own poster company or t-shirt line.

What does a sandwich mean? or: Sometimes a sandwich is just a sandwich.

Is there a food/culinary theory equivalent to literary or film theory?

Where can I wear my suit

I bought the suit ostensibly for a wedding but, frankly, I liked the idea of posessing a suit again not having owned one for at least ten years. I enjoyed wearing it. I felt good in it and was told I looked good in it, and that was nice. Having spent so much money on an item of clothing which also made me feel good, I'd like to wear it more often. But the question is to where? I'm rarely invited to weddings. Occassionaly I attend church. Once or twice a year I attend an awards dinner. What else can I do socially to give me more opportunities to wear my suit? This is a man posting, just to clarify.

Is there any acceptable way to ask retail staff for a date?

AttractiveRetailWorkerFilter: If someone would like a date with someone they only see at retail/checkout, is there any acceptable way to communicate this, that doesn't impose on the worker or make their job harder/unpleasant if they're not interested?

Less of a feature request, more of a mega cash-cow...

Less of a feature request, more of a mega cash-cow idea for Matt: The ability to make anonymous comments for $1 a shot.
