"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly, specialization is for insects."

I have just found out I'm a big fan of post apocalyptic fiction books. Somehow I like the idea of an individual or small group of survivors almost alone in the world trying to find out what the hell happened to the planet and fighting for their survival. What are some good books and movies the hive mind can recommend?

I'm relatively new to wine and would like to know more about it. Which labels/names are best, what goes with what, etc. So, what are some good wine review sites and blogs for the average Joe? I've Googled for such things, but I don't know which ones are worth their salt.

I love reading sites like kottke.org and Neatorama (and, of course, Metafilter). It's exciting - I never know what I'll come across next. What are some other sites that have lots of interesting stuff, preferably on a daily basis (but less often is fine as long as the content is high quality)?

What is your favorite and most colorful expression or phrase? Speaking about two idiots that we work with, my coworker said that they looked like '
Two monkey's f*cking a football', which led me to say '
They couldn't organize a piss-up in a brewery', and as a final touch, which made me laugh, my coworker states '
They're about as handy as a bear cub with a toothpick'. I would love to write a book or create a website with colorful phrases from around the world. What are some of your favorite idioms that you use or have overhead in the boardroom, bar, or barnyard?

Many freeware games were released in 2007. How to seperate the crap from the good stuff? It can be a little hard admittedly but
this thread on the
Tigsource forums might help you. With around 30 categories (and a winner announced for each) ranging from 'Best Shooter' to 'Best Bosses,' there's probably something there to please just about anyone.

What single quote is the best introduction (or accurately encapsulates) a philosophy, belief or conviction that you hold? Or alternately, a quote that describes something in a way that gives you a deeper understanding of a particular perspective that you may or may not endorse.

At the end of interviews I'm often asked if I have any questions. I always think to myself "Lots, but asking about vacation time now might send the wrong message". What kind of questions are the interviews looking for or what kind of questions would be appropriate at this stage rather than at the salary negotiation stage? These are team interviews for large companies and public sector organisations. I'm in Canada.

I'm having a whiskey party tonight. There will be a mix of scotches, bourbons, and other whiskeys, single-malt and blended. It will not be a dinner party but I'd like to provide some hors d'oeuvres and possibly desserts. I've heard sushi is good with whiskey so I thought lox might work, and this
Honey and Whiskey ice cream looks good, but does anyone have any other ideas?

In 1965, Peter Watkins produced a fictional documentary called
The War Game in which the aftermath of thermo-nuclear attacks in Britain was depicted. The BBC declared that it was
"too horrifying for the medium of broadcasting" and was not aired until 1985.
Watch it here (warning: graphic depictions of effects of radiation).
