"Hip" Urban Gardening Resources?

Are there any urban gardening resources along the same lines as, say, Make, Craft, or Instructables?

Any tips on kicking caffeine? I've tried...

Any tips on kicking caffeine? I've tried repeatedly to wean myself off of it, either failing miserably or succeeding, but finding myself getting back to it eventually. My consumption isn't even that much -- one cup of coffee each morning and maybe 3 sodas a week, but the difference is *very* noticeable. Short of midday naps, which my office tends to frown upon, how can I shake the fatigue?

Joining the corporate blog crowd

I work for a small company. The idea of having a blog (outward-facing, not internal) has come up a couple of times. I'd like to a) find some good examples of existing company blogs as a model, b) figure out issues of upkeep/best practices/etc.

What modifies what?

I think that a thesaurus that was organized in terms of which adjectives typically go with which nouns would be really useful. Like, the adjectives that modify the verb "urge" (as in deep or unfulfilled, say). Same thing could be done for adverbs, e.g., ones that modify "talk" (relentlessly, incessantly, insightfully). I am aware of WordNet and many other on-line lexical databases like the BNC. I'm looking for something like a compiled list, based on actual usage, of what modifies what. thanks.

INTERCUT JULIE GOOD MORNING BLUEBIRD

I'm translating a script into English, and the dreaded "Hollywood format" in particular. Doing this in Word is a freakin' impossible task with all the goofy formatting and margins, so is there any particular freeware screenwriting software or preprogrammed Word styles I should be aware of? Would sure as cooter save me some hours of my life...

What edibles to grow in a garden with small kids in Toronto?

What edibles should we plant in the garden? Parameters: inexperienced gardeners, Toronto, raccoons and squirrels will be present, items that are exciting/educational for four-year-olds, and it's a plot in a community garden that we probably won't visit every day.

Looking for a good silver polish

We need to polish some antique silver, but are afraid of ruining it or removing too much metal. We're talking about flatware, cups, serving dishes, and other tableware. Ideally we'd like a method that: damages the silver as little as possible, provides a long-lasting shine/reduces future tarnish rate, won't kill whoever eats with them.

Best ways to prepare slabs of chicken?

I've been trying to make chicken dishes that don't rely on the usual pasta or rice+sauce+chicken combination. I have not been successful. I'm looking for chicken recipes and techniques that rely less on pasta and rice, and more on imparting flavor to the chicken itself.

Teeny Theatres

Theaters of the 13th Dimension. Save a place for me in the Teatro della Demenzia! Exiting a movie at the Senator Theatre last night, we were intrigued by four big peepshow-type cabinets -- velvet curtains covered small doors, which opened upon tiny windows and a glimpse into the teeny world of Theaters of the 13th Dimension. Don't miss the gallery!

Learning Upright Bass

Suppose a fellow has an interest in learning to play an upright bass. He doesn't have any illusions about being the next Mingus or William Parker, but enjoys the sound and feel of the instrument and would get personal enjoyment out of being able to play a few things. Further suppose that this fellow has very little money to invest in this endeavor. How would he go about learning?

Ascension Island

In the late '90s, I was the main guy behind an electronic art-pop band called Science Park. After suffering a nervous breakdown in the winter of 2000, I disbanded the group and retreated from the music industry for six arduous years. Now thirty, I've just issued a 15-year retrospective of my life in sound and have re-committed myself to my life's work with a raft of new projects. "Ascension Island" was first issued on a Japanese 7" single on Motorway Records in 2000, and later on my album Disinformation (Obscure-Disk). A tale of love, espionage, and violence always just out of sight, it features my trademark drifting electronics, shortwave radio interceptions, and cool, clean singing. Enjoy.

Oscar's 2007 Best Animated Short Videos

"Best Animated Short" is the Oscar category that (arguably) gets the least love. But why? They're often the most accessible, usually coming in at less than 10 minutes in length. Thus, for you consideration, here are direct links to three of the five 2007 nominees: "Maestro", "No Time For Nuts", and "The Danish Poet" (via).

abdominal aortic aneurysm

abdominal aortic aneurysm filter: My 53 year old mother-in-law was just rushed to the hospital and was diagnosed with a 7cm abdominal aortic aneurysm. Apparently it was caught just before it was about to rupture. The doctors are currently trying to figure out best procedure to deal with this since some blood has been leaking into areas it wasnt supposed to. Anyways, my question is has anyone ever dealt with this? What should my expectations be? Survivability? After operation? Thanks.
