Looking for classy, contemporary fabric and pattern shops online.

Are there any trendy, fashion-forward fabric and sewing-pattern shops online?

Cheddar? I barely know 'er!

I would like sharp cheddar. The best sharp cheddar recommendations you've got. Complex, subtle cheddars are great, but I'm also feenin' for cheddar that is sharp beyond belief. So if you don't have the cheddar equivalent of a 25-year old Bowmore, a perfectly acceptable alternative is the cheddar equivalent of a ziploc bag full of Everclear. Let the cheese strike my taste buds, hard.

Choir Geeks Rejoice!

Since these posts seemed to bring back happy memories/warm fuzzies for so many former/current choir kids, here is Hear the Choirs Sing, a massive collection of contemporary and sacred choral works from all around the world. And, if while singing along, you realize you've forgotten your part, check Choral Wiki for links to sheet music.

See answer key on back.

It's Saturday night. You're here browsing on the internet. Why not do something intellectual for a change?

Favorite History of Science Books

What are the best history of science books for the intelligent layperson? Some examples along these lines include Richard Rhodes' "The Making of the Atomic Bomb", David Bodanis' "E=mc2" and Dava Sobel's "Longitude"; books which mix equally well the explanation of scientific concepts with historical/biographical storytelling, and are not intended for practitioners of the field. In addition to general suggestions, specific recommendations about the history of probability & statistics and the history of science in the ancient/medieval world would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hmmmm. I might just join a club. Even if it would have me as a member.

May I pick your brain for a moment? Yeah, thanks. See, I'm thinking I want to join some clubs or groups or organizations in the Bay area to inspire myself as well as to meet more creative, vibrant, funny, smart, interesting people my age. Tell me, what does the Bay area offer that might really enrich my life here that I might not know about?

Lackadaisy. The ongoing saga of Don Bluth-esque anthropomorphic cats in Prohibition-era St. Louis. Start here and try not to drool over the artwork.

This Damned Old House

Houseblogs.net is an aggregator of home renovations blogs, created by our own Jeanmari and hubby DIYer. The 340 member blogs range from This Old Crack House to a couple converting a missile silo. Featured stories include the people who found a secret room in their house, and a community section has more good home renovation advice than you could shake a wrecking bar at. A nice place for inspiration and commiseration for owners of older homes.

Mathowie's Community Blog

This song is called mathowie's community blog, and it's about mathowie, and the community blog, but mathowie's community blog is not the name of the community blog, that's just the name of the song. - lyrical brilliance by It's Raining Florence Henderson, with extra bits of artistic license taken in the studio. - Arlo-esque lead vocals by French Fry, aka Alex Millard, aka my brother.

Frizzy Hair Begone!

My friend is a young Indian woman in her early 30's and this NYC weather is killing her hair. She has long, naturally black thick-stranded (coarse, really) hair and her problem is that it's frizzy. Really really frizzy. Okay, ladies, how can she make her hair more healthy? Anti-friz shampoo isn't working here. Grease isn't either. It's been a life-long problem, too. Advice from Indian women welcome :D
