MeFi post: Sarah Palin may be a better debater than you think
I will pay someone cash money to have this thread not be about konolia Rafaelloello .

So Todd uses their home as his office and Sarah uses the governor's office as a residence and they all get per diem whenever any of them visits their home which is actually Todd's office?

I'm sorry, I'm not having that. That was an AWESOME cartoon (when i was 8). I remember a friend not being allowed to watch it by his parents (cartoons = bad) and feeling mortified at his luck.

McCain can't handle a debate. Palin can't handle a press conference. Let's just cancel the election and put these guys in charge of the free world already.

This is an opportunity for both candidates to prove they care more about the nation than themselves. I personally think both will step up to the plate.

You... show up in these threads just to say ridiculous things, don't you?

konolia, my understanding of this whole campaign nonsense is that each candidate is supposed to prove that he is more qualified to handle the crises that we all face. If he can't 'focus on the economy' and run for president at the same time, how is he going to handle the economy, foreign affairs, random natural disasters, and everything else that will be thrown at him as president? The world will not stop spinning on its axis so that he can get his shit together, whether he's running for... [more]

He talks a lot about having hope and visualizing and creating a better tomorrow without actually specifying his vision of what a better tomorrow would look like, or the steps required to achieve that.

Yeah, he should really provide some specifics. Maybe he could provide a 33-page Blueprint for Change [PDF]. Maybe he could set up web pages and downloadable PDFs on issues like Civil Rights, Defense, Disabilities, Economy, Education, Energy, Ethics,... [more]

Creationists love to move the evidentiary bar, and especially love to demand evidence that either a: doesn't exist yet, and use that fact to deny conclusions supported by a wealth of evidence they *haven't* asked for, or b: demand evidence that actually does exist (like transition fossils, showing a species in an intermediate phase, like... Obama had to know that ANY reference to lipstick -whether you are applying it to a pitbull, a pig or a Presbyterian-would immediately be referenced back to Palin's signature joke.

I see your point just fine, but it's patently dishonest and takes a tremendous leap of faith. Palin using the word "lipstick" in a speech doesn't make a very common turn of phrase - one that McCain and his own people have gleefully used - suddenly off limits.... [more]

Is this common in the US?

This wasn't even common in Alaska.

Currently, however, this is not common. In fact, it's actually federal law now that rape kits must either be free or compensation must be available to those with economic need.

It's one of the regulations in the Violence Against Women Act, written by Joe Biden.

I love Biden but he's the one who is stereotyped as being the "gaffe guy."

To be specific with ACORN, what happened is that they paid people to register voters. One of their employees faked some registration forms in order to get paid more, in other words, to defraud ACORN (actions which would have no effect on the election). ACORN cooperated with the FBI during the help prosecute the fraudsters.

The wealthy Republicans are being really disingenuous when they're taking about Obama's tax policies -- they don't give a shit about what the income tax rate is. They're really freaking out about the Capital Gains tax, because they don't work for money, money works for them. Taxing cap gains hits them a lot harder than some piddly income tax.
