One of my friend's from work and her friend were out one night in the SF Marina district and were hanging outside of the bars trying to find a cab. One of the girl's, Olga...

Correction: One of the girl's Olgum. Two of the girl's Olga.

MeFi post: From the cradle to depraved
This is a fantastic idea. Necessary, in fact, if we are to get our Children's Creche into production!

MeFi post: Boring men?
Occasionally, I speak my mind around my wife. I walked through the door after work the other day, and she said

"Hi!"

I said

"Greetings!"

She said "What?"

I said "Greetings in he name of His Majesty, Emperor Haile Selassie I! Jah! Ras Tafari!"

She said "What?"

I said... [more]

I guess Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus! LOL!

The problem is that the women quoted in the article, who are quite obviously insufferable hens, confuse men's conversation filters with being boring. But these women would never want to have the conversation that would ensue if men simply said what was on their minds. For example:

F: My God, you're so boring!

M: What?

F: Boring! You... [more]

Ask post: Name of a two-member guy/girl band?
I paid $5 to answer a question. That's weird.

MeFi post: Merry Christmas.
maple syrup and bacon, it's a wonderful combination

Agreed.

By far the best dessert I've ever had is the honey-bacon-apricot cornbread with maple ice cream drizzled with hot maple syrup and chunks of unbelievably perfect bacon from here. This is an adaptation of the recipe, but the real thing has more bacon and a hell of a lot more butter.

I've watched them prepare it in the open kitchen... [more]

Ask post: San Francisco Storms
My fiancee and I commute 50 miles within two states in the northeast US, together thankfully. We literally live off of NOAA's National Weather Service because the media weather people just always seem wrong about damage estimates and such. Here's the link for your specific area. Other's can use www.weather.gov. You'll see the warnings, advisories, and watches in red. Warnings mean they are 50% confident the thing they are warning about will happen in the next 1 to 2 days. When that... [more]

Ask post: What's the deal, Banana Peel?
I use these on my son all the time.

Eat your lunch, honeybunch.
Put on your jeans, butter beans.
Shake your bacon, Howard Chaykin! (meaning, let's get going. sorry Mr Chaykin.)
Outta bed, logeyhead!
Off to school, vestibule!
Brush your teef, Keef!
What's your bummer, Joseph Strummer?
Chew your food, Evinrude!

Huh, I just realized that most of those are commands. The rhymes are a sugarcoat, it seems!

Ask post: Do we really need 300 music categories?
You could just increase the number of categories to 1000 or so, and just use the actual names of the artists for the categories.

So instead of a category called "Bands that sound like Rush playing Santana covers," you would just call that category "The Mars Volta."

MeFi post: Hey! Hey! You! You! Gonna File A Lawsuit!
I have pointed out the whole Banana Splits/ Bob Marley thing for years and people looked at me like I was crazy. While we're at it, doesn't "Hitsville UK" by The Clash have that same musical phrase?

MeFi post: Hey Good lookin'! I'll be back to nuke you up later!
I grew up in the Harrisburg area, just across the river from Three Mile Island. About a year after the Three Mile Island incident, I heard that a local TV station accidentally triggered an emergency broadcasting signal by re-running a sitcom, which somehow included the previous emergency broadcast signal from the Three Mile Island accident.
