boom tish, boom-boom tish

Where could I find a list of the top-selling/played jungle/drum-and-bass/2-step songs of previous years, in particular 1998-2001?

Do you use a washcloth?

Is using a washcloth in the shower a cultural thing?

Showing for one weekend only!

If you watched a lot of television in the 70's, you'll recognize this ad. An authoritative baritone informs us of a startling new motion picture about psychic phenomena, the Bermuda Triangle, near death experiences (with fittingly, a sequel), Bigfoot, the Shroud of Turin, the Lincoln Assassination, or Noah's Ark. "Showing for one weekend only!" (More beyond the door...)

Broadcasting: A Question of Trust

In a speech for the Royal Television Society, ITV chairman Michael Grade questions how much the home audience is aware of fakery and whether they should have to be. It's a fascinating piece which includes examples of when television programmes haven't been, shall we say, completely honest with the viewer -- why am I so surprised about the prizes on Blind Date possibly being rigged? Grade suggests there should be zero tolerance in relation to these things, but isn't it just a case of us accepting that fact-based entertainment television always requires an element of fiction for it to be watchable?

Comment Dividers

Based on Gina Trapani's Lifehacker Blackener Greasemonkey script -- which she released into the public domain -- I made up a Greasemonkey script that puts a dividing line in-between Metafilter comments.

Napoleon's Missing Bonaparte

Dr. John K. Lattimer died earlier this week. &nCThe fact that he was the former chairman of the urology department at Columbia University is the least interesting fact about him. He was an expert in ballstics and became the first private citizen granted access to Kennedy's autopsy photos (he made this drawing to explain the path of the bullet). He treated survivors of the Hindenburg explosion and Nazi defendants at Nuremberg. He was also a collector of some very odd items: a pair of Eva Braun's earrings, the cyanide ampule that Hermann Goring used to commit suicide [.pdf], the key to Lincoln's presidental box at Ford's Theater. Oh, and he bought Napoleon's penis in 1977 for $3000. Some think it should finally be allowed to rest in peace.

How do I view the local news from multiple cities live?

How do I watch the local news live in multiple television markets other than the one I currently reside in?

Plane crashes in to the word trade center. Apologies for not linking to anything besides the main CNN page but there are no full stories on this yet. The plane crashed into the building about six minutes ago, from what the TV is saying. We are about sixty blocks north and we can see the smoke over the skyline.
