In the world of conversation killers, talking about Excel to the average person ranks up there with the best. At the same time, there is always a chance that you wish you could have that conversation at work when it gets down to the wire. Even as a pro, you might need that brush up on
Array Functions,
calculation tricks,
VBA examples or some examples from one of the
well known authors on Excel. There is also no shortage of people who dedicate their working lives to this arcane program and are more than willing to assist others for free by posting solved issues on their websites. People like
David McRitchie,
OzGrid,
Rob Bovey,
Ron de Bruin,
John Walkenbach,
Dick Kusleika,
Joseph Rubin and
Chip Pearson.
Or if you just want to be a Debbie Downer at the next party, just take page from any of the following, memorize it. and recite it when faced with that nudge you don't want to talk to:
Excel Support,
Jon Peltier,
Colo's Junk Room,
Scriptorium,
Andrew's Excel Tips,
Andy Pope,
Anthony's VBA Page,
Rodney Powell,
Array Formulas,
Erlandsen Data Consulting,
Excel-it,
ExcelUser,
JKP's Excel Page,
John Lacher,
McGimpsey,
Bill Jelen,
Stephen Bullen,
Tushar Mehta,
VBusers.com,
The Excel Nexus,
The Excel Logic Page, and
Anthoney Does Excel. It’s a fast and easy way to ward off lounge lizards.

this happening to anyone else? I view a post, click back, and there's that little window hanging over the MeFi logo. Eh?

How to say "I love you"
"(42) Inappropriately, to a coworker who is already sleeping with another coworker. (43) With a heart filled with lies. (44) With a she puppet and a you puppet. (45) As she leaves for Spain with your much better-looking brother. (46) At Thanksgiving, to her twin sister, by accident."

120 Minutes
is a tumblr page put together by a fan of the long running MTV alt-rock show, with links to dozens (at least) of videos from the show's heyday. There's no search nor sort that I could find, but the site makes for fun browsing for fans of that particular musical era.

I'm looking to rebuild my mathematics skills from the ground up so that I have proper habits. I'm looking to start from the basics and go straight up to calculus. Math was a subject in which I didn't pay as much attention to as I wish that I had and am looking to find the best sources of information on the subject.
I also would love software that would drill me kind of like speed reading software but for math.

I'm bored and ignorant. So are you. Let's learn something. There's a plethora of free open "courseware", books, and audio lectures on the internet. And IRC channels where we could "meet". And surplus of smart people here. Let's set up a "course" and take it together.

There must've been hundreds of times over the years that I've tapped out a rhythm on a pan full of water while doing the dishes, the pitch woozily shifting as the h2o sloshes about. At those times I've almost always thought, hey, I should put this on a track sometime. Of course, I never did, until the first MeFi Music Challenge, with its "water" theme. Along with the big metal bowl full of troubled waters, you'll hear jawharp, talking drum, bombo drum, bell, shaker and vocal.

The conservative city of Rajkot (Gujarat, India) received something of a shock this week when
Pooja Chauhan, 22, stripped to her "inner-wear" and
walked through town, brandishing a baseball bat. She was
protesting against the mental and physical harassment she's had to endure at the hands of her husband and in-laws for dowry, and for having borne a daughter, and also to denounce the local police's inactivity despite her repeated complaints.
Controversy,
video,
her side,
follow-up.

On November 29, 1864, John Chivington led the Colorado Volunteers in a dawn attack in which at least 150 Cheyenne men, women and children were slaughtered (many of their corpses grotesquely mutilated), bringing a new wave of Indian-white conflict to Colorado's high plains along the Santa Fe Trail. The
Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site was officially dedicated
today.
See photos of some of the
people involved, read some contemporary
propaganda concerning the event, as well as actual
testimony from witnesses and perpetrators.

The Tyranny of Structurelessness
[T]o strive for a structureless group is as useful, and as deceptive, as to aim at an “objective” news story, “value-free” social science, or a “free” economy. A “laissez faire” group is about as realistic as a “laissez faire” society; the idea becomes a smokescreen for the strong or the lucky to establish unquestioned hegemony over others. This hegemony can so easily be established because the idea of “structurelessness” does not prevent the formation of informal structures, only formal ones. . . . Thus structurelessness becomes a way of masking power, and within the women’s movement it is usually most strongly advocated by those who are the most powerful (whether they are conscious of their power or not).
