Sony screwed me again!

Help me ScrewFilter! I have an old Sony Clie I want to open to replace the battery but Sony used evil, tiny 5 pronged tamper resistant screws.

MeFi Navigator Mefi Navigator (annotated screenshot) is a handy GreaseMonkey script that makes navigating MetaFilter threads a bit easier. A picture tells a thousand words - look at the screenshot! Here's a description anyway: The main thing it does is to add a dropdown box (and forward and back arrows) next to each comment which allows you to go directly to the user's other comments in the thread. It marks comments from an admin or the original poster. Also, a little 'back to top' arrow is added to each comment. If you have any problems, email me at mefinavigator at googlemail dot com.

Ideas for innovative uses of technology in higher education?

For many years our university has touted itself as being "cutting-edge" with technology by requiring students to buy laptops. Obviously we need to be doing more and I'd like some ideas for ways we can be innovative in this sector and reach out to the students, faculty, and staff with new resources that will actually be used. Bonus points for ideas that go against the grain, defend easily for funding, and generally rock.

I've always been plagued with extremely vivid dreams, and incredibly efficient dream recall. I say plagued because I don't like these abilities. Is there anything one can do to lessen the vividity of dreams, or keep from remembering them upon awakening? [a little more inside]

Make askme more of a reference page?

It's pretty difficult to find things in the archives of askme, and I think that probably contributes to the huge number of questions posted each day. [mi]

Should I POD should I truck?

How do PODs stack up vs. moving trucks, in terms of the amount of stuff one can fit inside? I know the cubic footage in each, but... how much of that can actually be used? Looking for info from people who have moved (or helped someone move) using both.

Midlife crisis?

Midlife crisis? So, my husband and I have spent the past few years working to live more simply. We recognized that we did not want to spend our lives working very hard to have more stuff. So, we have simplified and are thinking about what to do next.

Do we need a financial planner?

Because we are looking to buy our first home in the next few months, my husband and I want someone with more knowledge to help us figure out our financial situation - where we're at and where we should aim to be. I am not sure if what we're looking for is a financial planner, or if this is even really necessary to do before we go home shopping. My worry is that most financial planners (if that's even what we'd want) seem to be focused solely on retirement planning & investing. I'm not sure if that's what we need.

On your mark ... get set ... drawer

Drawer Geeks is an illustration challenge founded by Greg Hardin. Alternate Fridays, a group of 25+ professional animators, illustrators, cartoonists, and designers riff on a given fictional character. This past week's theme was Santa Claus. Among archived themes, I particularly liked: Medusa and The Grim Reaper. (via diminished Responsibility)

chat between a Mac and a PC

I have a Logitech Messenger webcam and a Mac (10.3.9) and I downloaded the macam software. How do I chat with a friend who has a PC and another Logitech webcam? Should we use AIM? Yahoo? Excuse me if the question's too easy but I'm a total webcam n00b and what I found on Google is quite contradictory. Thanks!

How to make pictures look more like cartoons/illustrations?

I would like to make some photographs look more like cartoons or illustrations in Fireworks (or Photoshop if necessary). Anyone have some tips on getting this accomplished? I have Fireworks 8 on my machine and access to Photoshop CS2 at school if worse comes to worse.

Stevie Wonder

Stevie Wonder performs his classic hit "Superstition" on Sesame Street in 1973, and turns it into an extended funk workout. He sticks around to perform his own killer theme for the show. [via YouTube]
