Both happy office workers punching the air AND kittens disguised as frogs
Okay, I've SO wanted to make this website.
So often when I've been doing stock photo searches I have ended up befuddled... I'll think to myself, "Is there really someone out there desperately looking for a photo of a tie plant that flowers with the head of a guy?" "WTF did this girl do to earn a lollipop the size of Texas from her doctor?" "When did Carrot Top become an admiral in the flying mermen viking army?" "Is this the heaviest... [more]

Help Me Find a Sexy Weekend Bag (For a Guy)
I love my Skyway Doctor's bag for the weekend. The pictures do not show the bottom compartment, which I use for my laptop, phone charger, camera charger and other misc electronics. The inside is all one compartment, but it's a light, sleek bag and extremely well-designed. I find little design features which surprise me with their utility every single time I use it. It's only $25, too.

The Coming Collapse of the Middle Class
Not a transcript, but my notes from the lecture:
1. Though household incomes have increased over the last thirty-five years, median incomes for males have actually dropped by $800. (Women make less still.) Household incomes have only increased because both partners are working.
2. Household savings have gone from 11% of take-home pay to -0.8%, while the contemporary family has negative savings: revolving debt has risen from 1.4% of annual incomes to 15%. From... [more]

Great words... that you actually use
I made this list for precisely this purpose. They're words that I might have known in the first place, but wanted to keep track of -- either because I have trouble remembering the definition, or because I don't often think to use them. I went out of my way to exclude any novelty words like "defenestrate" and just stick to words I might actually want to use.

Most amazing places in NYC to hang out?
As far as "secret" goes, there's:
PDT (Please Don't Tell) attached to Crif Dogs on St Marks (near Avenue A) Call ahead for a reservation. (212-614-0386)
Backroom, at 102 Norfolk St in the LES, which is a 20's era speakeasy themed bar, where you drink mixed drinks out of teacups and beer out of jars/paper bag covered bottles.

You gotta pregame that sugar, son.
Can I also say that I'm sad there are no pictures of rmless and I getting up and doing the "Soulja Boy" dance at Katz's? Video would have been even better; it would have captured the table next to us chiming in on the "YOOOOOOU" part.

Am I Blue?
How cool to find out. Aren't we all related genetically?
Here's a fascinating photograph of a Kenyan child with blue eyes.
Another, similar: Why do I have blue-eyes? I am an African-American. I am 37 now, it's always been a shock to many. I was born with natural blue-eyes. I am not light skinned at all; I am a brown skinned woman. People are amazed that they are blue just like how white people eyes are. I have a 15 year old and he has... [more]

What to do about the nations food supply
In a grad school class with one of the most hardcore teachers I had, discussing something totally abstract like global ecological collapse, we asked her what one action she would have society take. Her answer was that we should get rid of all the grocery stores. I've been thinking about it ever since. How is that the single most important environmental action we could take? I think the answer is that it would raise the importance of certain facts, e.g. that fish from the San Francisco Bay... [more]

Visit Australia!
Australia is proof of several related facts:
(1) The creationists are right, and all life on Earth was made by God.
(2) Sometimes God gets really, really high. Higher than the highest high any human could achieve. And when He's high, he doesn't stop designing new animals. Sometimes it turns out pretty well, like with the giraffe. Other times, He forgets that mammals don't lay eggs or make poison.
(3) Australia is where God puts all of the... [more]
