A song inspired by crossing the frozen river Neva in Saint Petersburg, Russia. This song is short, simple, and basically three choruses and no verses. That's right - screw the verses!

no dragons were harmed in the making of this song, in which we revert to our default full on trip hop status.

Another demo for our album that is in production. Sung by my friend and drummer Neil who has recently found his voice. A song of regret and the often crushing weight of unconditional love.

A song written for my oldest nephew (he's the giggling in the beginning and the talking at the end). His nickname is the monk, not little sprout.

For this month's
MeFi Music Challenge, just to make things confusing, I'm offering a cover of a cover. Specifically, it's a cover of Sleepy Pete and Melissa May's
The Book of Love (which, of course, is also a cover--not to mention a hard act to follow).

We know that rock about rock rarely rocks. And we know that
rock about rock about rock rocks. But how about covers of rock about rock about rock?

Here's a somewhat sappy song about a former lady friend in DADF#A (I broke my high E string the other night, so no tuning for that one). I wrote and put it together this morning.

May, 1968 - Paris
I've scoured the
Wikipedia entry (very helpful), gone over a
few articles and
collections of varying quality
(not bad), and I've seen
"The Dreamers" (a fiction film that touches on it)... Now,
what non-fiction media (book, article, film, photographic collection, etc.) should I consume to have a better understanding of the Parisian Students'/General strike of May, 1968? I'd like to start with the most general, canonical retellings, and then work towards the specific.
[English Language or very good translation preferred]

Help me find music about music! What are some songs about music, it's culture, etc.? Songs like The VU's Rock & Roll, Joni Mitchell's Woodstock, Billy Joel's It's Still Rock and Roll to Me, etc...

Piano! Mellotron! Squealing guitars! Stewardesses!
I've been working on this for a few weeks now. It's one of the more complex arrangements I've attempted in a while. I think I'm getting close to done, but I could really use some feed back. Thanks, folks!

A song about accepting that bad stuff sometimes does, and will, happen. Written after the untimely death of a relative a year ago. It's not about him per se, but it does make me think of him every time I play it or hear it, just because the song came together at around the time of his passing.

About twice a year I'm charged with the task of making music for a Japanese design house's fashion shows. One of this season's pieces, for Tokyo Fashion Week, needed to be "airy and pretty and happy", which is not exactly a vein of musical expression that I normally fall into naturally, but, hey, gotta give the bossman what he wants, right? Anyway, this instrumental piece (5:42) is what I came up with.

I need advice on learning to play Dobro-style guitar. Is there a tuning that's easier to learn on than the others? How about steels--what's the best to start with? I have a "resophonic" guitar, an Epiphone with a radiused neck. I just ordered a squareneck nut extender & I want to start learning now.

Suppose one friend was to send another a letter by mail. What makes for an especially great letter? What elements make a letter newsy enough to be interesting, without seeming to be a catalog of fabulous adventures? What elements make a letter feel emotionally true and personal, without seeming to be the writer's self-important inner monologue? What elements best invite a response? What elements encourage a feeling of connection in the reader?

Mostly midi version made when I was studying sound engineering. We had to do a song for an assignment using Logic. I took an old vocals and acoustic song of mine and re-jigged with awful out of time drumming and wacky samples. Got a decent mark too.

Although it's graphics are nothing to write home about, the game play (which I will wisely follow kotaku's example in not spoiling for you) is quite simply incredible. It's a unique and quick little work break for you

Idiom filter: Party Pants.
I was watching Cien Mexicanos Dijeron (the Unavision version of Family Fued) with my girlfriend, when they got to the final stage, where two people try to answer quick questions with the most popular answers.
We didn't manage to catch the first contestant's answer, nor the question, and the second contestant was clearly just spitballing with her answer of what we believe was "cepillo de dientes" (toothbrush). According to the the host, the most popular answer was "pantalones festivos."
Festive pants? What the hell?

I'm getting pretty tired of hearing the line "if you've done nothing wrong, you have nothing to worry about" in regards to what's happening right now in Washington. I've heard some long articulate responses to this, but what's a good one or two sentence response that succinctly points out the error in this line of thinking?
