Family friendly PS3 games

My girlfriend is in South America for the next few months. She is living in a house that is owned by her uncle who works for the Catholic Church. He has a wonderful HDTV and a PS3 sitting in his house but no games. Now he isn't there that often but her 14 year old cousin lives next door. What PS3 games would be appropriate for my girlfriend and her 14 year old female cousin that wouldn't create a potentially awkward scene if her Catholic Priest uncle found them?

Why can’t my movies be as convenient as my music?

DVDs and Blu Ray discs are such a pain with their ability to be scratched and the need to find where a disc is, is it in the right case, etc. I find myself often drawn to standard definition “on demand” movies on cable (free ones) instead of searching my own high definition or DVD movies. Is there a way to have the convenience of “on demand” and the quality of the original media?

I want more of the same.

I enjoy literature with a dystopian and/or post-apocalyptic bent to it. I want more. Recommendations?

Help me find this audio experiment.

I read about and heard an experiment about acoustic resonance. A guy made a tape in a room of his voice, then made many generations of recordings of the original recording. At the end all that was left on tape were the fundamental frequencies of the room. I can't find it anywhere. Ring any bells?

Recommended ancient classic literature for beginners

Where do I start with ancient classic literature, especially accessible versions of mythological or vaguely historical tales? Preferably from Anglo-Saxon or Norse traditions, but I'm open to anything really good.

DVD player that isn't hostile to end-users?

Can you recommend an upconverting DVD player with component output that ignores region coding and allows me to perform any action at any time?

How to estimate the quality of an employer's code base in an interview for a programming job?

I have an upcoming interview for a programming job. I'd like to find out a bit about the quality of the code of the product I'd be assigned to develop, i.e. is it dailywtf material or decent enough. Any ideas how to get some information out of the interviewers, at least some of whom are assumed to be technical people?

How detailed is your mental imagery / mental visualization?

I am curious about how detailed, or photographic/realistic the imagery in one's mind's eye is, and what in general would be considered "standard" for most people. Note I am not talking about "creative visualization" but I suppose it could be related. Specifically I am referring to simply the process of visualizing an object, face or scene in your mind's eye.

Where to go to do research on a specific soldier in WWII?

My brother is doing research on his brother in law who was a staff sergeant in the Paciifc in WWII. After the war he came back to the States, got married and had 8 kids and died at the age of 50. He was in many of the horrific battle zones of that time, Guadalcanal, etc and we would like to present his children with a narrative of his experiences or, at least, places of warfare. The question is - where would a person go to obtain this information on a specific soldier? Thanks very much.

Scammed by the movers

Interstate movers gave a binding estimate ($2300) based on an accurate list that we supplied, but after all the furniture was loaded on the truck they told us it was more than twice the price ($5300)! What can we do?

Best HDMI switch?

Best HDMI switcher out there? (plasma TV only has one port) I'd like at least three, maybe four ports. Remote control not really necessary, I'd like to have maximum image quality though and I can spend, within reason, to obtain it. I see they're all between 50 and 100 dollars, maybe there are some known lemons out there? Maybe there's a kickass brand? Thanks.

Recommend me some good post-apocalyptic movies and books

I have just found out I'm a big fan of post apocalyptic fiction books. Recommend a book - fiction or non-fiction- dealing with the uncertain, endless posibilities of life

What should I read? Recommend a book (fiction or non-fiction), life affirming, something to be read after a heartbreak/letting go. Possibly involving fate/destiny, and the uncertainty/infinite possibilities of life.
