Punch 'Em In The Dick (NSFW lyrics)

Crunk/Southern Club style head banging high energy hip hop track. All vocals by my normal collaberator, Juicy Karkass, and his buddy Savior of Animal Farm

It's time to play the music.

The Muppets have their own YouTube channels! Enjoy a little classical music with Beaker or Gonzo, opera with the Swedish Chef, get patriotic with Sam the Eagle, or just leave commentary with Statler and Waldorf.

Kick Start

Just me and a guitar, singing an alphabet song. Be warned: I say "fuck" in it.

User comment dumps

Many of us have spent quite a bit of time writing our various comments and posts on MetaFilter. In the spirit of "All posts are © their original authors," I would like to request the ability for a user to be able to download all of their own contributions as a simple data dump.

The awesomest song

I need a really awesome entrance song. Something that makes the audience be like, "Aw damn, I now know that this is going to be very enjoyable, all because this song is so badass."

No time like the present

I'm interested in aspects of benchmarking with the help of UNIX's time, specifically, what user, system and elapsed times correspond to, within the functional context of the system and the tested application.

Dapper: an API for any website

Dapper: The Data Mapper
A recently launched service that allows users to extract data from any website into XML, and transform or build applications and mashups with that data. Described by it's creators as a way to, "easily build an API for any website... through a visual and intuitive process". Plagiarism Today, meanwhile, has cause for concern, "Dapper is a scraper. Nothing more... now the technologically impaired can scrape content from any site... the potential danger [is] very, very real".

Waiting Games

Give me your best games to play while waiting in line, going on long car trips, or on airplanes. Requirements: 2 or preferably more players, minimal, self-made or no equipment necessary (deck of cards is OK), and fun! So far I have: rock/scissors/paper tournament, Mafia/Werewolf, 20 questions. I need more!

What are the most intellectually stimulating podcasts?

What podcasts will make me more intelligent just by listening to them? I enjoy the BBC's "In Our Time", which features serious discussion of historical events and people by academics working in the field, and also quirky, thought-provoking programs like WNYC's "Radio Lab" and "This American Life". I'm not so keen on some of the podcasts I typically get from newspapers that gloss over the surface of a subject with little analysis. What other highbrow podcasts are made by people who really know their shit?

The Online Tool for Precision Vectorization

VectorMagic is a new site that uses technology from the Stanford University Artificial Intelligence Laboratory to transform your bitmap images into vector art that can be scaled without becoming blurry of pixelated. Here's the first image I submitted, before and after.

Did Bill Bryson and/or Stephen Katz take any photos during their Walk in the Woods? Are they online anywhere? I'd love to see them.

potatos and.....?

Keeping friendships in grad school?

As a doctoral student, how do you maintain friendships with non-academics? With all the lab work and time that goes into research, there isn't a lot of time for fun. And it seems that friends and family don't always understand it - especially for first-generation students from places where not everyone goes to college. Have any of you had this experience? What's hard about maintaining relationships with friends and family -- and how do you cope?

The life of a scholar for me?

What made you quit grad school? What was the deciding factor? How did you know it was time to go? Subtle signs? Did your advisor say 'go away'? If you stayed, when did you feel like quitting?

Zip Code Proximity Search

I need to add a zip code proximity search to a site. I have the registration form configured so that it stores a user's zip code with his/her profile. Now I want to give the option to "Show all users within X miles". Does anyone know if there is a web API to handle this?

Am I normal? For those people in PhD programs, did you contemplate dropping out on a regular basis your first term? Any advice for making it less stressful?
