How come we aren't all mutants?

According to this chart, there have been 2,422 nuclear explosions since 1945, including above ground, under ground, and in the sea. I'm somewhat amazed that this isn't having more of permanent negative effect. Does spreading out all the nuclear activity allow our ecosystem to absorb the radiation in reasonable intervals? Chernobyl has been a wasteland since the reactor meltdown. Was it simply that much more radioactive than actually testing bombs?

Cycling to work, how do you manage clothes?

I'm looking for tips from people who ride a bike to work. I have the bike, and the work, what I'm looking for are the practicalities of coping with the sweatiness; showering, changing, keeping clothes at work, or travelling with them.

Spread my options

Hummus recipe filter: What’s the most interesting (and delicious) hummus you’ve made? I’m tired of all my variations and in the mood for something new. Recipes that go beyond the usual add-ons (i.e. sun dried tomatoes, roasted garlic, jalapeno, bonnet peppers, etc.) are particularly welcome.

Essential.... essential.... essential...

Since 1993, Pete Tong has been hosting the Essential Mix on BBC Radio 1. A group on imeem seems to have uploaded them all. Tracklistings here. Some of the best of all time: Carl Cox - 1996 (tracklisting), Paul Oakenfold - 1994 - (The Goa Mix) (TL), Leftfield - 1994 (TL). A few good ones from the last couple of years: Justice, (TL), Soulwax (TL), Eric Prydz (TL). And one of my personal favorites -- Scott Bond - 2000 (TL)
