Amusing a two-year old

I am looking for new things to amuse and delight a two-year old in an urban setting. Most activities are for slightly older kids, so other urban parents, any tips or tricks for fun activities we can do together? Bonus points for Boston-specific suggestions.

It's is not the possessive form of it.

The apostrophe seems to trip up just about everyone, even many Mefites. For future reference, you may want to bookmark this site that gives the 13 rules for the use of the apostrophe.

Hack My Baby

Give me your baby hacks! My wife and I are expecting our first child in November. What tips and tricks can you offer us to make our lives a lot easier? For example, a friend of mine swears that putting a crying baby in front of a mirror will cause it to stop. Another uses noise cancelling headphones to temper the noise from his shrieking child. I am looking for hacks on everything from diaper changing to stroller modifications. Make our lives easier as we enter into parenthood.

Tracking stolen ipod and laptop possible?

Our house has been robbed. Some of the things they took were an 867mhz G4 laptop and a 80gb iPod classic. Is there any way to trace or find out if and when those devices attempt to get online again? And for future reference, is there anything we could do with such electronic devices so that they attempt to phone home or some such if stolen?

Where can I find pictures of pretty objects?

I really like looking at pictures of beautiful/clever/interesting products. What are some frequently updated blogs that feature good pictures of really cool stuff? I'm talking about pictures of clothing, gadgets, prints, handmade goods, kitchen implements...pictures of almost anything tangible, and the featured items don't have to be for sale.

Australia's first female head of state

Quentin Bryce has been chosen as Australia's new head of state from next month. As the first Australian female in the role she joins a growing list (currently 48) of international national leaders. Bryce previously served as the Federal Sex Discrimination Commissioner and director of the Queensland Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission prior to her role as Queensland governor. Replacing a highly decorated ex-soldier, who cut a low profile, who had himself replaced a controversial clergyman, Bryce has the opportunity make a significant mark on the country. She will join the list of first holders of political offices, and bring us closer to to a situation where the appointment of women to positions of power is no longer remarkable.

That darkling brightness which falls… onto my excessively backlit pics

Help me compensate for backlight in my shots. I often have to shoot with the light directly in front of me, outside, in very, very strong sunlight. Up close, I can use fill flash, but I have massive silhouette-stylee problems if what I’m trying to shoot is far away. Help me learn to adjust the exposure so that you can at least see the subject in the foreground of the shot.
